It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Cool2002, I'd like to ask you why you're not considering the rock in the background of the photo. Are you just looking for triangles and not parallelograms?

Cool2002,
I've seen an entire hillside strewn with large rocks, all of them had X's or diagonal slashes carved on them. It was probably the work of a stonemason looking for a suitable piece of rock to carve, or someone was putting a lot of practice time into the art of stone-cutting. My point is, if that area has many rocks, you'll be looking at a lot of triangles and parallelograms.

Those stones are probably occupying much of your thoughts, and the best way to put the matter to rest is to get a decent deep-seeking metal detector and scan the entire area. You may wish to draw a line from opposite corners of the parallelogram and scan the intersection of the lines with particular care. From the photos alone, my honest opinion is that those are just rocks laying there, but there's no harm in scanning the area.
