Go Up Go Down

Ok here is the deal. I was pondering buying the $40 metal detector from Harbor Freight Tools. When I first joined this site I got some feedback as to if I should buy it and some opposed it. Well I have to say I bought it last night and just got to use it today and am very impressed. In thirty minutes I found 2-old coke tops( the actual top of the can), 2- coke pull tabs ( one was about 6" deep), an old piece of train rail about 6" long and about 5" deep, and old large bolt or part of a crankshaft not sure which it is, and 2- appears to pot pie tins. I must say I am getting my moneys worth by not finding any coins or jewelry, but then again this is just my back yard. Thanks for letting me have my say on this but for my first detector it seems to be an ok one.

Go Up Go Down

Hi usmcman,
I know that Stonebreaker purchased one a few weeks ago, and he found a couple of coins with it, and when we went out last Saturday, he got a hit with it at the base of a tree,
He had me check with the detector I was using that was made by whites ( that I got from him cuz mine died! LOL) and I got the same hit, he dug it up I dont remember how deep it was. But the machine seems to be very sensitive and it works which is the main thing. I think it was a week or so ago it was posted on one of the boards about Detectors made in China if they are getting better? I would have to say in this case the answer is Yes they are.
As for our outing, all the treasures we found we didnt have to dig for LOL, and that is another story all on its own, I hope it works well for you, if you have any questions just drop me a line,, Best Wishes ,,,,Rob

Thanks for the encouragement Rob, It does seem that they are making them better. I am planning on going to a corn field this weekend and a creek right next to it.

I know about the coil. I have given this thing the once over already and am going to use some silicone to seal the hole and put a one gallon zip-lock bag over that to make sure it doesnt get wet. Thanks again. Brian

I'm thinking it might void the warranty also. I think they come with a 90 day warranty. Best of luck anyway.

Hi Airwing,
they do but you can get an extended warranty for 2 years for about 10 dollars, Ive delt with them for years and they are good about standing behind what they sell....Rob
