It could be that they were in Natal and not up our way.

I have a book called ADRIFT ON THE OPEN VELD The Anglo Boer War and it's Aftermaths 1899 - 1943 it's the Deneys Reitz Trilogy. There are lots of details in this book, he talks about the Scottish battalion in Natal. Perhaps I should Google it?

Yes he was a big hero in the Boer war. I think that the man had more balls that brains and a hell of a lot of luck, but it takes people like him to win a war even though it was lost he certainly made a huge impact. I can't help to wonder how SA would have been today had the British lost the war?

And of course the scout Danie Theron...  On the British side, the interesting person funny enough was Winston Churchill who was captured and escaped again....

Yes Winston Churchill was soposed to have been there as a journalist but he had a rifle and hence was taken prisoner. Did you know that till this day no one knows how he escaped?
