Fisher Gold Bug SE, Tracker IV

Go Up Go Down

Its the age old problem, at least with every metal detector I've owned.  A pull tab tones just like a small gold ring.  Discriminate against the pull tabs, lose the chance to find the ring.  Is this just me, or am I not spending enough money on a MD?  My tracker IV will ignore nickles in this range also.  But beyond the technicals, I find myself after awhile tired of digging trash.  So I use the discriminator, all the while wondering what I'm missing.

And yesterday I had a new evil thought for the first time.  Why should I pick up all my trash finds, and clean this lot up, just so the next guy can come through and have a great time after I've been there?  Well, I did take my trash in the end, because it may be trash, but it was MY find.  So to say dig everything is easier said than done.  Is everyone else facing the same challenge?

Dig it all digging a few pull tabs is ok if it leads to a ring or two.

Definitely in the dig it all category   Smiley .......and as for the trash, not only are you getting it out of YOUR way should you ever hunt the area again (benefitting yourself as well as the other folks who follow you), but in sufficient quantities even the trash has monetary value to someone.   And then there's the whole be able to honestly point out to those who want to shut down or control out hobby how much GOOD we do the community as a whole.

I agree with BitburgAggie_7377 , have been doing research for TN and several bills have been brought forth to ban MDing in TN but all have failed so far. Showing the good we do by removing the trash is a good point.

Our problem here in areas like Franklin, Murfreesboro, Chattanooga, etc , are the midnight raiders that come in and MD late at night and then leave a mess, they are doing this in Fed Protected and State Protected areas as well.

If anyone should see or find someone doing this report them to your local law enforcement as they are giving the rest of us a bad name, Doesn't Matter what state your in , it gives all of us a bad rep.

Sorry for hijacking your thread, just venting.

I agree with everyone. Dig we must. If I'd ignore a signal, I'd be wondering what was I letting go. Sure it's frustrating to dig up a lot of trash, and you really can't expect to find treasure each time. I've learned that this hobby takes a lot of patience. Trust me I having a hard time waiting for this darn snow to melt, and more is expected.

Ok!  Here is the deal!

Being a Gold Wanna be hunter, I have little need or want of public places to hunt.

But when board, I hunt the Tot Lots just to get out of the house.

I love people with a fancy Detector that tell them WHAT and WHEN to dig.

Yep, I can take my Ancient History Garrett S3 VLF Go over the same spots they hit and find the goodies.

All I have to do is DIG it all.   I do miss some because I can hear the sounds of Some junk.

If it sounds like a Pull Tab, I dig.  If it sound like a Small Piece of foil, I dig.

I Win!! Great

Could be worse.....my wife and I went through one weekend where 90% of what we recovered was either a nail (of various sizes) or a razor blade (and those aren't fun to dig up)....The other 10% was really interesting.
