I find this thread interesting as I like to make stuff too. I have a Minelab Xterra 70. How do you use this probe in conjunction with your detector? Can anybody please explain this so I can make one too. Thanks,
Ray

You need to build a switch harness for your pinpointing probe that allows you to put the probe in circuit as you disconnect the main coil. In other words, the pinpointer is temporarily your detector's coil. When you release the button, all goes back to normal. Whatever switch circuit you use will require a delay of a few milliseconds before one is disconnected and the other takes over. If you leave the detector without a coil even for a tiny fraction of a second, it will reset itself and try to recalibrate to the new coil. If you add a delay, keeping both coils in circuit for a millisecond or two, the transition is very smooth.

Please do not come back now and ask for such a circuit. I don't have a diagram nor do I have the time to design one for a machine I do not own.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

The 7660 is used because it has very low DROP OUT properties.

 Wise

In Pulse detectors this is a good thing. Idea

Sounds like a nice pinpointer if you have a pulse type machineto go with it.

Probly with simple start to finish instructions , parts list ...  Moast people would be able to have their own probe hand built.

Awesome!

Can you tell me if something like that could work with a Minelab Explorer?

Sadly No,
It'll only work on a P.I. that uses a single coil.
Until someone pulls apart that broken sunray that they have and has a look at the coil arrangement.......

Hi Paul, great project, I think I will have a go at this. How is it terminated and what does it plug into?

Ah! having read a few more posts it looks like it's no good for the new garrett ace 250 I have just bought?

Hi Grampz!

Sadly it won't go on anything other than a Pulse induction detector....
That doesn't mean to say I'm not cooking up something else!..... might take a little while but... watch this space!!
