I drive 100 miles a day, for me, I fill up two times a week at about $50.00 on average per fill up. That's about $450.00 a month in gas, that is without going anywhere other than work and home, plus picking up my son 2 times a month....

Now I am depressed.... Sad

V-Burgh, Minimum wage is $9.75 to $16.20 per hour

But out of my wage I pay 20% tax so on a $1000 that leaves $800 and when I spend the $800 then 20% of that
is 20% VAT (value add Tax) so thats another $160 in tax so I get 64c on the dollar. and it does get worse.

Yep.....higher wage for an area generally translates to proportionately higher cost of living---and it doesn't matter whether you're talking minimum wage or average hourly wage.  The economic principle remains the same.

About USD 10.00 per Gallon in Germany.

Posted on: May 19, 2011, 07:38:48 PM
... but I really don't mind as we still have free health care, housing etc. if you are unemployed ... social aid for example is Euro 350.00 minimum (approx. USD 500.00) plus free health services plus free housing. Also university is only about USD 1000.00 per year.

Yep, and about 70% of that price is tax's. Welcome to Socialist Europe, a soft tyranny. Gee, our home grown tyranny was enough I thought.

I'd pay $10.00 a gallon if we had all that too!!!  We pay a lot for our health insurance and get little for it.  Our universities are charging an arm and a leg for an education and there is no such thing as free housing here unless you live in a tent somewhere.

There's no such thing as free housing anywhere anyway.....someone is paying for it whether they want to or not.  The only way you can legitimately say that anything is free is to say that in the final analysis the state owns everything and allows the governed the illusion of ownership/control.
