Approximately USD2.38 per US gallon of RON95 petrol here. Diesel's slightly cheaper.

Yep, and about 70% of that price is tax's. Welcome to Socialist Europe, a soft tyranny.

Now, this quite frankly makes me pretty mad. You obviosuly have a total wrong understanding of socialism. First of all there is presently no socialistic country in Europe. Second to that Socialism is nothing bad at all. It is just as good or as bad as what the people make of it. Just as religion in most cases is what people make of it. Poor Karl Marx would be pretty disappointed with what some people have made of his thoughts.

There's no such thing as free housing anywhere anyway.....someone is paying for it whether they want to or not.  The only way you can legitimately say that anything is free is to say that in the final analysis the state owns everything and allows the governed the illusion of ownership/control.

Paul, I do not fully agree. If we think of the state / country as the sum of all its citizens - which is true - then state property is owned by all its people. Hence the only question is what tax etc. is being spent on. I personally believe that it is better spend on education, healthcare and social aid than on the military for example. Personally I am allright with paying 10 bucks for a gallon and taking my bike or the train on other occasions when I know the tax from the gas will be spend on "good" things.

Yes, the idea of Socialism is to see everyone as being equal ... that's the good news. The bad news is that it has (yet) never worked out. So I am still with Winston Churchil that a democracy remains the best amongst the bad forms of governship Smiley

Paying about $3.69 a gallon here in Northern Utah.
Not too bad - out here it's awful when the price goes down.. those blood-suckers don't want to let go of their profits, and hit us when the national average drops.

Maybe for your country  you feel ok  paying 10 bucks for a gallon  but not the  case with diffrent countries like Canada ,we are taxed too  death here from income tax and tax upon tax on everything we buy ,and the best one is the hydro retirement  fund they take a cut for that  so far we have paid billions too it  Wink

Gas here in Perth is $1.45 AU per liter or about $5.80 AU per gallon. That equates to $6.19 US per gallon, £3.81 or €4.32.
