homefire,

vac pacs are $15-25? if thats the case, I sure would like some more info on that too. I have a couple of spots that would just shine with a vac pac. It would be the perfect match for my trommel!

Peace

Sean

Go Up Go Down

Got up at 5 this mornin and headed up. Was a beautiful day on the mountain. The vac worked pretty well, although I have a couple changes in mind. Awsome for cleaning out cracks in the stream. Pics a lil later once I upload em. Smiley

Welcome to the forum Katiem Smiley

  Idea Construction Instructions  Violent

1,2,3. Cut hole in top of bucket and screw on faucet sprayer mount. seal with an o ring, gasket, or silicon caulk.

4. Place 3/4 copper joint in top and gently tap in. Should be a pressure fit if loose apply silicon caulk and let dry.

5. Cut a short piece of 1 1/2 pvc pipe so that elbows fit together with just enough gap for bucket wall thickness as

shown in 6. DO NOT GLUE YET

7. Mark side of bucket with 1 1/2 pvc joint. Cut out carefully for as tight a fit as possible.

8. Do not glue yet! Place elbows in hole and add vent stack inside bucket. Mark top of stack about 2 inches down from top

and cut. Make sure elbows fit tight to bucket sides if not trim connector piece till they do.

9, 10. Mount connector to bottom of pump after removing check valve (held in hand pic 10) from bottom of pump. Mount

elbow on other side of connector. Proflex connector size should be 1 1/2 to 1/14. I used the metal encased for stability.

11. GLUE! Now you can glue the elbows together through the hole in bucket. Make sure pump and vent elbows stay vertical.

Glue vent stack at this time making sure it stays at least 1 inch below rim. 2 inches below reccomended.

12, 13. Cut 2 stabilizer blocks from scrap 3/4 ply. Stack blocks and nail or screw together.

14. Slide blocks in place between flanges on bucket side. Make sure the lid can clear pump then fasten with heavy duty

zip ties.

15. Place a drywall screw through the inside of bucket into the stabilizer block to keep block from sliding around. Add

check valve from bottom of pump to the vent stack.

{alt}

Wrapping up: Seal around elbows and bucket joint with silicon caulk and let dry.

Use 1 inch piece of copper pipe and 1 inch to 3/4 inch reducer to make a wand for hose end. Flatten end to about 1/4

width.

Fasten black hose to lid and wand with thumbscrew type hose clamps for easy removal. Hose length is dependant on use,

I used 20' but a shorter length would be easier for 1 man operation. For a longer length hose make sure and ratio water to material to avoid clogs when using.

For better seal a gasket around the top of the bucket is recommended but it will work without. A thin layer of silicon

caulk or a thin rubber gasket would work as long as the lid can clamp tight.

{alt}

Use gravity whenever possible by placing the bucket lower than the area you are vaccuuming.

{alt}

This is considered a dredge and you will need a permit to use it in some states such as Idaho.

Enjoy! Smiley

Saw 2 at the local flea market Saturday. One was $15, ran good although a bit noisy. Didn't try the other. Like Homefire said, you should be able to find one cheap.
