Thanks Peter...the van is a 1995 Chevy V6 and when I sold it it had 198,000+ miles on it. It's still running like a top as the owner lives right up the block from me and everytime he sees me he thanks me. Now he has had that for over 5 years and other than normal wear and tear he says he hasn't put anything into it.
You are right they are like family....Jim

Hi Guys
Did a quick 2.5hrs this morning at my farm site. Not a huge amount of stuff but quite nice non the less.
Heres a few pics.

Posted on: January 15, 2011, 11:42:14 AM
Some more. Starting with a pic of the wings after a clean up.

I cleaned the whistle and it still works, although the little wooden ball inside is a bit worn.
The wings seem to be SAAF shoulder wings.....most likely WW2. The coins are 1943 and 1945. All found in the same area, a spot about 5x5m under an oak tree.
Gotta love those big old oak trees!

Thats some nice finds. Trees always seem to be good places to search. The 1965 coin is still in good condition.

Hi Viking,

Looks to me like you had a good hunt ? Those wings I think will clean up quite nicely.

Gautenglion, welcome to the group, seeing as you are in England, I am guessing that you have moved across there? What part are you living in, I lived in Northampton up until the age of 13..... Many years ago  Wise

Hi Pgill
Sorry I see the 1943 coin didn't attach, will post later. Was a fun hunt and it's not every day yo pick up a military badge.
Hi Gautenglion, welcome to the forum, I sure as hell hope that you are active over there , you are in a fine place for detecting (UK).
Seems like every one is busy.....Silki must be cutting up people in the bush again, Xavier in bed with an electricians elbow....I suppose Indibean is out scouting possible sites .....and their quick escape routes Wink
Chat later

Go Up Go Down

Hi viking Pgill
Ive been keeping a eye on this thread but never posted on here really. Ive been in the Uk for about 8 years now. All my family still live in Johannesburg and Cape Town. I have been out detecting a few times and have mainly found coins. I live in Grimsby on the East coast of england. The beach is 5 minutes away from me, but ive only been twice. Im currently building a PI unit to try on the beach. I did a lot of detecting in the local parks but kept on being hassled by some people. The weather has been awfull but its getting better everyday
There sure is a lot to find here in the Uk because of the long history going back thousands of years.
Hopefully I will go back to SA sometime this year to go see the family and do a bit of detecting.

Hi gautenglion,

Thanks for the intro.... You are in a great place to detect..... Unfortunately, here in South Africa, we are in a place without the years behind it, and only a few selective sites to search, the rest is just bush where no-one has walked..... It makes the finds very slim..... But hey, we still make it by with a lot of work  Great
In England, there has been some terrific finds lately being found... So you are definitely on the right path.... Most are found in farmers fields.... so maybe that is where you should be  Wise

If you do manage to come back for the holidays or something, if you get to Johannesburg, you must give me a shout and we can go detecting somewhere.....  Great
