Grin Grin Grin The nice thing is that where you are you can find that king of stuff over here it probably could be found in the Eastern Transvaal but if you did you would not be able to sell it legally. I want to go for a detecting trip to Australia of America just to have the thrill of detecting gold and to know that I'm doing it legally  Cheesy

Angry And they want to tell us that this is a democratic country. I say that this is dictatorship. The only gold that you can buy or sell are the Kruger Rand

You can't sell gold in SA?  Sounds like the goverment has a gold monopoly, just like deBeers had with the diamond mines...  do they still or did the government take that over, too?          Detecting

Homey and Xavier, I see now. That makes sense sort of, you got to excuse me I'm still thinking vacuum tube. It sounds something like an FM detector would works. Actually I had a courses in solid state electronics and a quarter of circuit design 20 years ago but all that went out of my head lately.  Cheesy

X, glad you found the problem with the cattle.... now give them the right stuff so we can have some biltong  Kiss Kiss Kiss

I am looking forward to tomorrow's detecting trip  Great will see you after lunch....

As for the gold story in this country; if you want to carry / sell raw gold, you have to have a license / permit as a prospector / miner. This first off is not easy to get. Then you need to place a claim in which to mine on, most of this land has been taken by the big mining companies, and if they have not... the moment you put in a claim, they will over run you anyway. If you do panning for gold which in this country there are only a couple of places. You have to buy a day pass to pan in an area that they tell you, then whatever gold you do get, you have to sell back to them the same day. This is more of a tourism thing than something serious, it is done at a place of historical importance for this country.

So if you do get all the paperwork necessary, you can sell gold, but it is just not given to anybody that asks for it.

Western Deep Levels mine is 2.4 miles deep. It is the deepest mine in the world, so that will give you an idea of when we say deep mining  Shocked gold mining is not too practicle for the average person without a lot of money  Thumbs Down
