I have the little cousin  Of the Ground Hog, the S-3.    Man for a cheapo machine 30 year old, I would pit it with a pile of the new ones.

I still use my Groundhog too. It's a bit heavy and tires me our quickly but what a machine! Deepest one I have, bar none.

Go Up Go Down

X came to stay the weekend with us in Westonaria  Great we had great fun as Friday was a holiday here in South Africa, so we all went to the zoo for the day... All the animals looked at X very carefully, as they were trying to figure what breed of animal he is  No no! even the monkeys were confused with him  Funny Funny Funny Funny

Saturday, we went to the old mining town of Bank which was knocked down in the late 1960's  Great We found lots of junk, especially car parts as the building we were searching was an old garage.... The best find was mine  Grin a 1929 South African Penny  Kiss also found some more modern 7.62 Blank rounds... what they are doing there, I do not know  Idea X, was complaining all the time over a few flies  No no! he is never satisfied  Thumbs Down The grass was long, but there were patches of shorter grass, this being where we detected.

We took X back home today, and had a Barbecue (braai) at his place before climbing in the car to come back home.... Altogether though, it was great fun  Clapp

Grin Grin Grin Good one mate

Peter said a few flies but he forgot to mention million  Angry Damn those flies were iterating me they were all over me. We don't even have so many flies on the farm mind you that when you have a BBQ they seem to also invade us (Horrid little things they are) The Penny that Peter found is really nice but I'll bet that with a better detector we could find a lot more in that old mining town, having said that I'm now more determined than ever to get mine working like it should it's a dirty job but someone's got to put Peter back in his place  Grin Peter gave me a VERY COOL inverter (Takes two people to carry it) unfortunately the technical data that was on it is no longer there so I have no idea how many KW it can deliver but I should think that it's quite a lot considering the size of the two transformers that are in there. It is manufactured by MLA power systems. I will try and find out more about it on the net Ho by the way I ordered some more magnet wire .202 (AWG 32) for the receiver coil to replace the 0.315 that I have on at the moment I just hope that this will be OK and if not then I will just have to get more.

X, just buy me a Garrett Pro Pointer and we will call it quits  Shocked

We did have a great time, I still think there are more coins around there as this is the 2nd one I have found there.... The penny is the same size as the British Penny as at that time, Britain ran South Africa.... The coin is "George V"...

Not sure why the flies were there, but they were a pain in the @#$%, it must of had something to do with X's deodorant, or lack off  Funny Funny Funny Funny I would love to get back there when the grass is a lot less, as there are good things there.

Xavier, I asked this question once before but I don't recall the answer. Would it be possible to cram the circuitry for ferrous/nonferrous discrimination in a pinpointer? Idea

Anything is possible particularly if the design uses SMT (Surface Mount Technology) in its design. Is it practical? I'd say no because you'd have to guess what your target was to set it properly and that defeats the purpose of a pinpointer. I don't trust full size detector discrimination and I would have less confidence in miniature detectors.
