Right So Im sitting here watching the movie Zulu on TV, And I was wondering if any of you guys known anything about the Event, I thought that all the British got killed But in fact only 17 were killed and they did actually win the war/Battle and 11 of them Won the Victoria Cross,

Has any historical items ever been found connected to this time period,

Yes Zulu is the story of king Cetshwayo the movie was done on site where the event actually took place in Natal (Rorke's Drift) a lot of small items were found in that area, you have to remember that the Zulu worrier was use to having spears thrown back at him but here only bullets were used and of course in this kind of warfare the Zulus were put in a disadvantage even though they had the numbers.

They were a Fearless bunch, I was surprised to read that the Zulu's Gave up even though they still had over 3100 worriors left. I just read a bit about it on Wiki, they were quite Honourable People,

Actually they were traitors, they made a deal with the Boers that there would be no fighting then they slayed all the Boers that were not expecting anything to happen. it's because of that, that there was the battle of the blood river where many thousands of Zulus lost their lives. So many fell dead into the river that the river became red in color hence the name of the blood river war.

The Movie never depicted that side of them, So who killed the Zulu's, was the remaining Boers, Its a War that we all have heard about but it is not Common knowledge like all the other wars that have gone on, Really it should be because it was the turning point in history,

Thanks mate,  AU

Shit I wrote you a whole story on what had happened then I went onto Google to get a photo of the river for you to see and then I closed the internet connection so all that work is now gone, now that really grates me because it's not the firs time that I do this. OK so here's a cut down version, hell I'm not starting all over again. When the Boers arrived in the Cape they found that they were being robed by the natives so the asked the British for protection but they never got it. A group of Boers left towards the east coast and arrived in Natal where they met Shaka and his brother Dingaan. Shaka was king at the time but Dingaan wanted to be king so he had his brother assassinated but before that Shaka had made peace with the Boers and they got along just fine, the reason why Shaka did this peace treaty with them was because he knew that they could teach him a lot of things. When the attempt was made to kill Shaka the Boers were looking after him using what medication they had but then he died from his wound and Dingaan used that as an excuse to massacre the Boers within his camp, one of the Boers managed to escape and warnd the other Boers that were at the camp of what had happened. The Boers used the ox wagons to build a fortification they also had the Tugela river separating them from the Zulus. At dawn the Zulus attacked the Boers but the Boers were well organised with the woman and children re filling the muskets and even making musket balls as the fight went on. So many Zulus died trying to cross the river to kill the Boers that the river became red from all the blood. Here is a photo of the river in question

Well yes judging by the size of the river and it had turned red that's a lot of blood. I see that the encyclopedia Britannica dose not agree with me and yet I'm 100% sure of my story, here is what they say.

Battle of Blood River, Blood River also known as Ncome River,  (Dec. 16, 1838), battle between the Zulu and the Voortrekker Boers on the Ncome River, a tributary of the Buffalo (Mzinyathi) River, in Southern Africa.

During 1837–38 Boers migrating from the Cape Colony with their families and livestock (see the Great Trek) advanced into the region along the southern borders of the Zulu kingdom, then ruled by Dingane, which led to many clashes between the two groups. On Dec. 16, 1838, a Boer force led by Andries Pretorius induced a Zulu attack on a Boer laager (protected encampment) of wagons at Ncome River. The Zulu were handily defeated, suffering heavy losses caused by the Boers’ firearms and cannon, and Ncome River became known as Blood River after its water reddened with the blood of thousands of slain Zulu. The Boers then overran the Zulu kingdom and forced the Zulu population loyal to Dingane north of the Mfolozi River. The Boer victory at Blood River helped undermine Dingane’s power: in 1840 he was deposed by his brother, Mpande, and was later killed. Conflict between the Zulu and the Voortrekkers ceased under Mpande.

Before the battle, the Voortrekkers had taken a vow that, if they succeeded in defeating the Zulu, they would build a church and observe the day as a religious holiday. For more than 150 years, Boers (later Afrikaners) annually commemorated the victory as the Day of the Covenant (see Day of Reconciliation).
