Give me a break JCP Spain and the rest of the countries, including us, who are in deep financial dodo are there because of profligate spending on social programs that reward people for not working or giving outlandish bennies to those who are working.  When you have fewer people working than not all that backward spending is going to put your financial knickers in a twist.  Add to that subsidizing these utterly stupid "green" energy projects, that failed by the way, and your Kim chi overfloweth.

I see no reason for a company doing its business in the open and succeeding to be penalized for their success and that is what the judge did probably under pressure from the gov.

Well, Gramps, I technically agree with you. After 300 years, it's finders keepers. But, the government has to get their "taxes", lol. Of course, I guess the claiming country would be getting theirs, then, the finders country would be getting income tax. Sounds like normal taxation to me, lol.

One other point that is puzzling to me. There are at least a dozen countries where Spanish warships are currently being excavated. The Capitana wreck in Ecudor, the San Diego in the Philippines, the 1715 fleet in Florida and wrecks in Mozambique. Why hasn't Spain laid a claim on these wrecks? In Mozambique they have but the Moz govt. just thumbs their nose at Spain. They claim that if the wreck is in their waters, it is THEIR (Moz) cultural heritage!  Mad

Hey Gramps, I didn't say or mention any faults for a country being in debt, that isn't the point. The point is, Spain is in debt like many other countries, why, isn't my point of interest. They need money, coins worth millions is worth them trying to get. I don't agree with the courts decision either, but I can understand the reason they fought for it, and why politics could have played a part, at Odyessys expense.

JCP it has been brought up, every media outlet has talked about the countries in Europe trhat are ready to go TU financially speaking Spain among them.  Again I say they brought it on themselves with a Marxist/Socialist goverment that inevitably fails, Russia had a lot of little countries to pliage to keep their boat afloat.
