I found this piece many years ago under a rock bluff here in Tennessee. It measures 5.75" by 1" and is copper with a silver plate on it. Any help on the symbols would be appreciated. Thanks!

I saw some similar symbols not too long ago and hopefully I'll run into it again, but the ones I saw, from what I remember, were some type of wicca symbols. Not saying that's what this is. If you don't come up with any more info, pm me and send me a copy of that photo and I'll see if I can dig something up for you.

Whatever it is, it's a great unique find.
Mike

PS Update.. I was wrong about it being wicca symbols. I'll keep my eyes open.

Hello , Here is my guess : I believe the symbols are not of american natives/tribes  , but very old english year 1700 at the most . One symbol look's like a keyhole and does not seem tribal/indian . Another symbol look's like a rocking chair. This may have been carried by a solder or family who traveled or moved from the north-East United States to the Tennessee Area .  I am sure someone else on this forum will give you a completely different answer. But , It is definitely a Great Find and sure will stir up some friendly debating here !!!.............Thanks again Squid385 for posting this image here:...............Regards..... Turtle symbols usually depict treasure. It looks like by using two shafts, one for sighting and one for running lines it can be located. Keyhole=look through or to unlock.  Bell=mission church.  The orientation of the plate may be vertical or horizontal and read as a route, left to right, right  to left &c. But then it also could be a kids toy.

First of all, thanks to all you guys for your replies. Back when I found this thing with the symbols I also found a gold French Louis D'or dated 1753 in the same area. They are probably not related, but they were found within about 30 feet of each other. Unfortunately, I sold the Louis D'or and kept the symbol object. I was hunting for a cache of gold coins at the time, but only found the one. Done a lot of research on the gold coins (about 200 lost around 1794), but only found this one. I still believe there is some more there, but they are probably scattered and very deep. I am still working on it though. Thanks again!

Those symbols look like cattle brands.
