I'm still hunting around brother.....now do you know if old gatling guns had a "headspace and timing guage" of any sort?  we have one for our modern day .50 cals that basicly times the gun mechanically so that the round feeds and seats correctly and doesn't explode or cause the gun to fire slower than needed.  I have mine that I saved over from when I was in Afghanistan so I could take a picture of it if you want and post that to give you an idea of what I'm talking about.  I reasearched the Boer war and saw a couple of gatling gun pictures, so maybe it's soemthing along those lines?  any way, just a thought.  take care

I am not sure about that toleary34, if you do have any photo's etc that may help. This item has turned out to be quite a quiz  :Smiley

Hi All,

Here is a picket peg that was used during the Boer war that I came across at the museum here in SA...... my item definitely does not fit in here, but interesting. I have sent off to the museum again to see if they help with identifying my object, still waiting to hear from them.

God bless
Peter

I haven't been home in a couple of days, but when I do, I'll take a picture of that head space and timing gauge.  I really am curious as to if gatling guns used the same principle.  take care
