me thinks i better clarify my last post.
firstly ty hardluck for the confirmation on the sources, much appreciated.

ok cryptogram, like most i have converted script into english, mine may differ slightly as i think parts of it have been doctored, thus giving a different meaning, word or saying.
bar that i will guess once converted it looks like this;

A P R ? E ? M E ? U N E P A I R E D E P I J O N T I R E S ? E T
apr ? south western look through central joint Q shooting and

2 D O E U R Q E S E A J T E T E C H E Q/ A L F U N E/ K O R T

F I L T T I N S H I E N T E C U P R E N E ? U N E C U L ? I E R E
                                           take a abutement 1st

D E M I/ E R/ R E E F/ O U T R E /F O U S E N F I T E /S U /N E/ O N/ G  A T
half the reef          further carry (infant?)fit in / an on a passage

matthews on captain                     loss                  otis?

etc etc etc.
other stuff that came out was , v rules (v on contours) more taken , 2 let broken on the path, we want a roof...........peker hard a woman, to avenge a coloured to a breadfruit tree for running to taylor.
the rest of what i have is all few words here some there, let sleeping man......makes.....difference.

perhaps someone french speaking can check its roughly right or am i being a muppet?

Exciting!

One thing a noticed, is that one easily get lost while translating cipher characters to letters. I comperade mine to another I found on the net and found errors in both. I have corrected these in mine, even if there still are some characters who are a little hard to be certain of.

Anyway, I'll attach my translation here, together with some statistics about letter frequencies. It would be nice to compare to someone else's in order to find other errors, or to make a common guess of the ones who are hard to see clearly.

Hardluck; you seem to know a lot about history. Do you know which calender that was used at this time? (My 'April theory' was maybe a little rushed, but it would still be of interest to be able to compare dates).

Hello All

Captevil: I think you might have an interesting point about the Gregorian calendar because it was introduced by Pope Gregory XIII in about 1582. Only 4 counties adopted it at the time. Britian only adopted it in 1752. France adopted the Gregorian calender in 20 December 1582 and was later replaced with the French republican calender for 12 years after the French revolution in 1789 and later reverted back  in about 1801 to Gregorian calender after the Republic collapsed.

So if this cypher was written how it was, we could suppose the author of it was French and used Gregorian Calender?

If the Cypher was writen in French by an English man he would perhaps he would not have used the Gregorian calender? Because English did not adopt the calendar until 1752. If he had then perhaps he was Catholic because in Puritan England they saw the calendar as a Catholic threat until 1752?

Gee this is getting very interesting. Keep up the good work all. It would be nice to find out the missing archaic French Words?

Hardluck

hi all,
hardluck, you mentioned if i found more about matthews i did..nasty piece of work.
he was two faced, and deep down all he wanted was his own personal dealings.
the intersting bit for me was when he ended up at st marys...to find mayhem..a pirate by the name of "conden" captain of the "flying dragon" had ripped into a jeddah ship, matthews found the ship half sunk, washing up to shore, was a shed load of spices, cloth etc, and he apparently took 13lakhs from it.
anyway, the bit that intersts me was matthews met john plantin, he was with a scotsman and a norwegian (could there have been a mix up, as you mentioned a norwegian in an earlier post?), plantin showed great hospitality, entertained at his castle etc, yet matthews still robbed him upon leaving.

add on;
plantin had mentioned he had pleasure in helping destroy the viceroy of portugals ship...(there was another ship with it at the time aswell)

Heya folks......

i think ye gentelmen r making it a bit complicated than certainly, really it is,& going a bit off track ? (my personal view obviously)

but as i hav noticed, there is some break in cryptogram..... that something is missing, probably due to passage of tym.

to Wuzneme: and thing i've been thinking is that what is the clear picture of yer decoded cryptogram Huh?
Further according to all of ya was the cryptogram Fake or real Huh?  Idea
& and i've some ample of info about La buse....

Hello All

Hello Capt jack sp

The La buse legend is a very intering one and like all treasure legends the hardest part is sorting out the fact from the fiction. You are more than welcome to contribute information about La Buse. Have you been fortunate enougfht to discover orginal documents?
