I'd have to go back and dig up the name but one later hunter supposedly caught up with Emil at home in Germany where he was enjoying his wealth. Apparently he didn't stop running till he hit German soil. There should be some records of him somewhere if he had a dollar to spend.

There were a few Adams mentioned in the timeline but I left the first names off since I couldn't see that they fit the Adams of the legend. I can't believe in the Tenney account or the pamphlet account no one knows his first name. Someone had to know with him being around for that long searching.  Undecided

Agreed on Gotch Ear, I bet he disappeared asap. He would have know it wasn't safe.

More and more I am doubting they had any exchange with the apaches until the assault.

I would like to see that report on the German if you find it.

Think we're on track along this line of thinking. It would not came as a surprise to me if Gotch Ear set them up after he was paid to save face.

This is starting to bother me also. He was a freighter there should be some records some where plus after he was brought to the fort they should have some records plus he was arrested for killing 2 Indians not long after his rescue and then escaping there has got to records some where.

It's in the book Apache gold and Yaqui Silver by Frank Dobie. If you go to the link and click look inside you can read most of his findings on the Adams diggings. Might have to pick this one up it's entertaining reading at least. Original was written in 1939.

Chapter 4 The German. Of course everything is second or third hand so who knows, but at least it's something.

I have several editions of Apache gold and Yaqui Silver by Frank Dobie. including a first.

Have not read it in a while will reread it to night. I have the highest respect for Mr. Dobie he brought us many legends and tales that may never came to light without him. But he was first a writer and story teller so as BA says a lot of what he has to say we must take with a grain of salt. As you say Jones lots of his info in all his work is 3th and 4th hand to my knowledge he did little research checking facts.

What kind of gives me hope that we will find some gems is that he grew up right at the end of the adams story, and definitely should have been able to talk to some of the right people, people who are long gone now.

I thought you might have found a new reference about the German. Never put much faith in the one by Dobie. Think it came 3 or 4 hand from a guy named Young do sure will reread it later.

Hello All

Here is a newspaper article dating back to 1897 about 2 men claiming they had found the Lost Adams diggings.

OK Seldom, I can wait! I'm also interested in BA's input since he said he has a big old file on the Adams diggings. Even if the diggings have been found I think it would be an interesting place to visit. Probably some good gold still out there
