Hi All, I was reading something about Adams and how he got his gold. Story goes some California diggers were travelling back with about $50,000 in gold. Adams and party attacked and took the gold for them?
If any truth about this, did they then hide the main part and forgot the spot? Or just another story to cloud things up.

First time I ever heard that one.   I'd like to see the documentation on it.....especially since the likeliest area for the Adams is surrounding by known gold producers in both Arizona and New Mexico.....Besides, if it was California gold chances are it would have been shipped and not transported cross country (both were dangerous and slow).   Still it's an angle to check if the story and it's sources can be found.

That sounds like a cross over from the Sublett legend.

got caught up in office work, honey-do's, and trying to get my taxes filed before the deadline on 18 April.....so unless I stumble on it while doing one of those, it's back on the back burner.

The Story on the New Mexico version puts it up around P.A. New Mexico.

The water fall in my thinking has to be one of two places.

There are are two that I know of.   Up in the Cat Walk area and the other at the end of Bear Canyon lake  (That would put the gold in what is now the lake.).......

Sence he made it back to the Fort Ft Bayard.  It has to be close.

Yeah, both of those places are in most likely to be here search area + a few places just about the same distance from the AZ-NM border on the NM side....but I lean towards the NM half of my search area (see a few posts back)

Huh?  Don't know.

Story goes that the Indians (I Like Natives)  Told them not to go above the water fall.

They did after a while and the Natives decided to do away with em.

The Lake has been there for quite a spell  , I think it was built during the 1960's.

As you Drive up From the South East Hwy 35 just before you get to the lake you pass a Ranch/Farm  to the left you will see a Rock Wall that is the Water fall during the winter rains.  LOL! You cant miss it because when the water is a rushing it just about takes out the road.

If you cross the fence and walk up to the fall, it's about a 6oft climb.  At the top is what is now the over flow of the lake.

The water is shallow at that end but sure to be silted up to the max.

I really think this is the spot.

It fits the description of the Zig Zag canyon with a water fall leading to a Plateau.  Nothing like that can be found at any of the water falls up in the Cat Walk.

There all Sharp Walls, and lots of Drops.

Ft Bayard is just down the hill 7 or so miles on the other side.

Bear Canyon South and West later on was found to be a most productive Placer area.

Homefire might be on to something.

Them man made lakes hold a bunch of good sites. I know of two home sites under Lake Livingston that I believe hold small caches but guess I will never know.
