Thanks for the ideas on getting the cover off and the silicone suggestion. I like the thought of not having to be concerned about debris getting under the cover.

Hi everyone!!!

With my coils if they come with tape on or not i spray my coils with a product called armourall which is a dash board cleaner , you can use any of the car interiour sprays because they are silicone based , if you spray the coil and the cover inside and out not only does the coil always look like new it makes the coil cover come off abit better, but the best part is that the dirt does'nt stick to it so it makes it easier to clean, just spray the thing and wipe off the excess, and you can pick it up for less than $2.00 per can. job done.

Aloha,

Coil covers are a must in the beginning to save that coil you just spend a bundle on for a long time. I use a bead of silicone along the top of the coil cover where there is a seam between the coil and the cover. This seals out any black sand and junk from entering the coil cover and giving you false readings. If you have an old coil you might try PC-7 epoxy along the edges and bottom. Just another way to save that coil. Good luck and happy hunting.
Aloha,
Stan aka Ka'imi

It sounds crazy but I have had at least 20 different detectors over the years and never once did I have a Coil problem.....knock on LCD screen.
I have also,always used a coil cover.

Well i've used my MXT300 for about 30hrs in stubble and today i noticed that the edge of the coil cover is all smooth and has worn off the rough textured patten around the edge of the base . If stubble can do that then it is better to use one rather than buy a new coil every 60-70 hrs because if i had'nt used one the coil would be stuffed as soon as ya hit a rock that works out at about $3.oo per hour of ware. john

I'm thinking about trying the spray on rubber/plastic stuff mentioned here.  I will sacrifice the Micronta for the test.
