I have to agree with the others. Coil covers are the best way to protect the life of the coil. Wouldn't leave home without it.

Was thinking about your Amour All idea and do you think it has anything to do with wearing your coil cover out so fast?

I have never heard of a cover wearing out like that, even in stubble.

I have two old White's 8" coils that now have the internal wires exposed due to excessive wear.
Coil cover- couple bucks
Coil- $100-150
Ya need to use coils!

In posts back some folks like to coat there coils in different coatings to protect.
I wonder if this stuff will affect any warranties!

Probably, but then again, none of my detectors are currently under warranty.   I also doubt if it would effect the warranty on anything other than the coil itself.

Well B A, I recon you agree altering or permanently fixing a foreign substance or object to a metal detector Will VOID a warranty!

The sprays I'm talkin about are silicone based, Silicone is a rubber lubricant and are made for such plastics etc, as well as making tyres look good and dash boards look
good , I've been using it on car plastic dashes etc for more than 26 yrs and never had any signs of damage caused by these products
so i don't think they would damage coils or coil covers

yeah, and the one's I'm talking about are permanent coatings like you put on tool handles.   I doubt if auminesweepers sprays would void the warranty....they're essentially non-detectable.   Mine would probably void the warranty on the coil itself, but not on the rest of the detector---you can always send the unit in with a different coil or no coil.

Bottom line, though, is it pays protect the coil.
