I don't know much, but if I were starting today for the first time, having done some research, I like the Garrett ace 350 for its reviews, features, and price range.  Having said that, I just got some good advice about GROUND BALANCE, that you ought to read in this link:

I'd like to point something out to you of which you may not be aware. The original post asking the question was made in January 2009 by someone who has not been here since February 2009. Unless he has e-mail notification set on, he won't see this. You can tell a user's status quickly by the Percentage of activity. Yours, for example, reads 32% because since you arrived here, you have made 31 posts. Until you reach 100 posts, you won't get 100% but when you do, as long as you stay active within the last 30 days, you will remain at 100%.

The original topic starter currently has 0% activity and hasn't made a post in almost 2 years.

Your information is quite valid and relevant but in the future, you might consider starting a new topic to discuss this sort of thing rather than expecting a thank you from a guy who will probably never be back here. Some people look at the original topic start date and ignore your most valuable reply. But if you start a new topic, it may get dozens or hundreds of replies.

This isn't meant as a personal affront at all. Just a reminder to watch what you post replies to. Sometimes, "freshening" a post this way is good. Other times, it's better to start a new topic.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Haha how funny.  I said I didn't know much and apparently that is so true.

My first non-toy metal detector was a Garrett Ace 250.  I found so many coins with it that I had to buy me the cats Meow.  Mine-lab Explorer SE.  Found thousands of coins and other goodies.  The Ace 250 hooked me.

Go ahead. I live in Australia so it's probably cheaper for you to do it.
