Hey silver Welcome

We get asked that question 10 times a week and there is no answer to what is the best detector.
It depends on what kind of hunting you intend to do most, and how big your budgeted is.
Use the search feature top right of page and  look at the threads about best detector, beginner detectors

Hi Silver
You can't do it with one best detector, something like 3 will do the complete trick.
Gpx 5000, for nugget hunting
Excalibur 1 or 2, for waterhunting
E-trek, for the land, fields and the dry parts off the beach.
And if you like to detect meteorites take this one, lorenz lpx2.
As you see there is no singel best one

I have purchased four Garrett detectors GTA 500, CX 11 Grad Master, GTA 1000, GAP 1350, thinking up grading will improve my hunting.  I real think the money spent, in what I think improving my hunting is actually a waste.  Out of the four Garrett s, I really thing the old CX 11 needle machine is the better all around detector, the other newer detectors only had add unnecessary bells and whistles for new features.  I really was waiting, like most people, for the detector that will give a little sharper depth sound, rather than clicks and whispers, and that would most likely come from the improvement of the coils, not a talking machine.  Once I saw the change in Garrett coils, that?s when I purchased the GTP.  I than decided to step out of the box and purchase a Minelab XTerra 50 thinking I may like the manual ground bounce and because I really believe in sound of the machine rather than a screen telling me that it could be a coin under the search coil.  I have only used the minelab a few times and it usually set in carrying bag.  This is because I have used Garretts so long and I was proficient with any Garrett I put in my hands.  The only improvement I have seen Garrett do to the detectors is doing away with the solid search coil and going with the coil that can be used in shallow water.   If I was able to place the new style of search coil on the old needle CX 11, I could live with that detector only.  Bottom line, I think all detectors are basically the same, it really is the brand of detector you get use to and how proficient you are with that detector.  I have never hunted gold, and maybe there is a large enough difference I cannot compensate the adjustments, but I would bet, after some hunting, I could tweak and have that old CX 11 and run alongside any gold machines hunting gold.  I do understand that a 18 kHz detector may not go as deep however is more sensitive for small targets than a 5 kHz detector which will go deeper but not as sensitive for smaller targets, but I think that can be changed at the coil.
Maybe I am wrong and there are differences in detectors, talk to me

Take a look at the detectors that I list in my took kit of machines. Just under my profile picture to the left. Look at anyone else who has a few years of detecting under their belt. The same thing should pop out at you. We all own many machines, some of which we have accumulated over more years than we care to count.

It should become apparent that there really is no "best" detector. In truth, no manufacturer would ever want to make one that did it all. The poor detector user would have to have arms like Popeye to use it for one thing.

You can help yourself by sitting down and deciding what you want to hunt. Coins? Relics? Meteorites? Aluminum? Gold? Caches? When you do that, come back with questions about suggestions for a detector. Opinions will vary widely on the matter.

The good Lord gave us all a choice, and when it comes to the best detector you don't have to have the "best" the best is in side your self.
If you find something that looks cool, research it and read reviews. You will start to get a feel of what you are looking for that fits you. That's what I did. I am pleased with my research! I have a detector I am very happy with. F5.

I would not buy anything with fixed ground balance.  Always buy automatic or manual ground balance you'll be better off in the long run.  That's my 2 cents of clad.  But Seldom is right,  all this has been hashed out on other threads.

Hi check out kellyco they have 1000s of reviews, personally i like whites, fishers or minelab . on trashy ground ,you need a fast recovery speed, hot ground then pulse induction, it all depends on you're style of detecting. coins, relics , nuggets ,ETC. good luck
