All of this back and forth banter is getting tiresome and wasteful. It would be more helpful if someone would post the exact schematic from which the boards were derived instead of just giving it lip service (finger service?). The most likely candidate to do this is Silverdog.

GD you are quite right the thing is this thread was started by Silverdog so he of all people should know that we are all having problems with this board but he has not come forward to assist us I'm not going to cry for assistance and I will not recommend his board either.
now lets see if some thing will come out of the wood work.

Regards Xavier

Hello Xavier and other friends,

In the board that silverdog is offering, very cheap, are no problems !
The tune pot can give some problems as with some type pots it works counterclockwise.
On the Geotech forum you can read more info.
This , nice site, works on my pc very slow...so most posts I make on Geotech..sorry
If anybody that has problems with the board can make clear close up photo's ...can be that we can trace the error that way...

Look at the parts layout and check them with your boards.

Best regards.

Ap

The most importend setting for a good sens is the delay setting, look at the scope photo's
Photo 1 the first window is to close the detector will not work.., Photo 2 is OK the first window is just after the transmit puls but does not see it anymore, Photo 3 the the first window is to far from the transmit puls so no good sens...
For more info look at the Geotech site.

It is the intention from my and silverdog that you all can have a nice project, that gives a  good detector that can give you lots good time building it and finding that pot of gold.... do not give up... at the end it will work !

Best regards

Ap

Hi ApBerg

Thank you for the information I will have a good look at it all and compare it with my board. I'm sure that the problem is a common one as we are all having the same problem with it. Hopefully I will be able to find the fault quickly and inform the other members so that they to can resolve this problem.

Regards Xavier

Guys

just to confirm - I just supply the pcb's , I have very little electronics knowledge
Schematic , parts list and board layout are posted but like most projects there are multiple threads - I believe there is a thread for "surf pi underwater project"

Anyway here are the files again - I do not know if they are exactly correct but I used them and got mine working, and I'm a beginner.

regards

Silverdog

Hello Xavier,

I have made  4 boards now that silverdag has supplayed, not found problems !
I closly watch that the connections where needed top/botton tracks (at components) and via's are good closed with solder...but do not think this is the problem....?
If you make some detailed photo's from your board, top and bottom ... so we can see...? and tell  exact what  the problem is.

As you can see on the photo, even without the tune pot in its place the sens for the gold ring is 15 cm, after placing the tune pot the sens is at threshold  level 25 + cm , no high teck coil is used...

Hope you find the problem.

Vriendlijke groeten .

Ap

Hi ApBerg

Problem solved I must say that I feel rather stupid I had a wrong cap for C9 hopefully the other members will find their problem as quickly as I did mine.
just confirm the inductance and coil diameter, wire gauge also if it shielded or not? I know that this information was already posted but this way all the info will be together on one page.

Hello Xavier,

Wow... I am glad you found the problem, (Zuid Afrika is ver weg op de fiets... ik was je komen helpen..grapje .. Waveing)
The coil I used on the photo has no a shield, normal solid wire from 0.5 mm and pvc isolation
If you are willing to make a real hot coil then use the inner part from a old coax cable, strip it until you have the wire with the thick Teflon isolating . So no screen and white isolation any more ( mostly the inside wire is a solid wire, better is multy wire's) . You need some 18-20 meters. Make a spiral coil from it, as the open centre coils, tray to start at some 15 cm inside, ending at some 25 cm outside.. For screening I used graffit spray.

Best regards.

Ap

Ha it's a bit far like you said. I have some flat coils that I made some time ago perhaps this will be an opportunity to use one of them. What is the inductance?
