Hey Peter, are those some of the grasslands in the background of your black powder shooting table that you're talking about hindering your detecting?  Nice pictures!  I've only shot black powder rifles a couple of times in my life.  Have a couple of friends that are deeply into it and they go to meets all over the US Pacific Northwest.

LOL!  I have a Black Powder Canon I made in High School shop.  36 Cal and with the powder of a Black Cat fire cracker it will make it to page 289 in the Yellow phone book.

Yea, back then it was cool to make stuff like that.

Now days they don't even have machine shop or Industrial Art Classes.

No More Hands on Electronics, Welding, Sheet Metal and stuff.

Just how to subvert your parents into submission and stuff.

Arfieboy, you are 100% correct about the grass  No no! just is not funny. Anway, the fires are now just starting, so then we will go into black, burnt ground then good ground  Great Great some parts the grass is about 3' it is crazy.

Homie, we used to make cannons as apprentices and shoot ball bearings down the workshop, great fun those days, but like you say these days that stuff just is not happening  Exhausted the new apprentices are boring  Laughing

We can sure see why the unburned grasses would be a problem for you all!

All you guys talking about making cannons and black powder rifles in shop and industrial arts, there is no way the schools would allow you to make a firearm or weapon now days even if they did have the equipment to do it.  At least in the politically correct US!  Zero Tolerance, ya know!                  Detecting

The fires are slowly starting here by me now  Devil also mostly started by people I think  Undecided every year we go through the same thing. I hate the grass being long  Angry

Black powder cannons are great fun, we used to shoot our homemade cannons at corrugated iron sheets... what a noise they used to make  Great I am a great fan of this stuff  Pray

Hey guys

How are you all keeping?
Fires are starting on my side of the hill too and I must admit that I do not like the high grass for detecting but the fire for me is a really bad thing as I have over 100 hectares of grass to feed my cattle during the winter months and even though it's not high (about 300mm) should the fire come my way it would be a very expensive day. I have two fire trucks ready to role at any given time and two tractors that could turn over the soil at any given place or time to fight that fire not to mention that should that fire start while my cattle are in the fields WELL there could be so much lost in live stock. Have any of you seen how 100 head of cattle behave when there is a fire?

Yep, the dumb azzes will freak out and run right into the fire.

Burn up there hooves and legs.  Or Worse.

Smoke gets them before the fire. Shocked Cry
