To be fair about this, I had the Minelab on all metal, no disc. This one will get a 22 bullet at 2 ft. or a drink can at 4 1/2 ft.

Electroscope (by Thomas) advertised for a few years in the U.K. detector magazines. Usual thing said was Electroscope 301 (think it was 301...the model that actually looks like a detector) wins first three places at detector rally. What they didn't mention was that the rally was only open to Electroscope owners.

As regards long range locator's I've seen lots. At one time I had five pounds of scrap silver coins buried for over eleven years. No one could locate them. Reason given...item would need to be buried for at least 100 years !  I've now got a three pound silver bar buried. No one can find that either !
One was sold to a gentleman in Cornwall who tried to get his money back as it didn't work. The reason given for it not working was WIND and Cornwall being a windy county what did he expect !

It all comes down to the fact that no one ever seems to have found a hoard and those that do have them don't seem to be living off the fat of the land. Meanwhile my local utility companies (gas/water) do use divining rods, either hazel or bent coathangers, and they can find stopcocks and the like. A diviner in the West Country will locate water for farmers and tells you the depth you need to drill to and what the flow rate is going to be. So if you have the ability you might have more chance of a hoard but if not its unlikely a box containing the circuit board from an old calculator and a couple of rods out the front, is likely to help.

I have a lot more experience with  electroscopes now than when I first posted the electroscope article.  I can say that I can demo a scope to just about anyone and have them locating targets within 10 minutes.  I can also  show how to use descrimation more effectively than most any metal detector I've ever used.I can pick up gold or silver while ignoring an alum can or pull tab. Civil war buttons and buckels are easily located.  I will say that if you or a friend are having trouble using a scope I can tell you the adjustments to make to be sucessful.  phone 704 866 7044

I've used my 301 a lot of hous and did a lot of experiementation the last for or five months.  Some tips you may already know. on 301 dial on left on 8 and right dial on 4 for gold or 9 for silver.  These settings will knock out aluminum completely. If you nhave one of the single dial machines setting 4 for gold and 9 for silver will knock out most trash.

I love this thread.  I watched the electroscope work on Pennsylvania chronicles on Utube.  It was pretty impressive but the guy got a couple of nasty feedback comments like one would expect an abortionist to get.  Anyway since there is such a diversity of opinion I'm going to get one and give it a skeptical go under as many conditions as I can to see how it works for me.  I will use it at dusk and dawn only so few will observe my activity so I don't take too much heat about it.  Thanks those of you who welcomed me to the forum...Bnthere

Tom,

It wouldn't surprise me to find an Escope that has a circuit board in it... heck, it wouldn't surprise me to find one containing dried fish. I've heard that other Escopes have contained all sorts of rubbish inside. One Escope owner I know opened his unit to find a circuit board and even a speaker, they just weren't connected in a usable way.

Another LRL called the "Lectra Search" (I own 4 of these) contains a scrap surplus circuit board that has some wires connected to it, but the circuit board does nothing but give the casual observer the impression that there is a real, operational circuit inside. I own over 30 LRLs, and have had a number of other loaners sent to me for analysis, and I am no longer the least bit surprised by what I find inside. The people who build these things have, shall we say, a serious deficiency in integrity.

Sounds to me like that prospector is just a good prospector. I guarantee the Escope has no ability to find gold. Heck, I'll even put up $25,000 on that statement!

While your laughing you might go to google books on page 108 of the wizard and read about Thomas Edison using an electroscope to check for a charge.

Tom, I hope you understand the RealScience electroscope has nothing whatsoever to do with the WishScience Electroscope, other than spelling. Had Afilani spelled it "Electroscam" probably no one would buy it.

- Carl

Hello Carl
Why do you own 4 Lectra Search LRL ? It seems strange to me because you do not belive they could possibly work. Also the other 30 lrl that you mention.
