Sudden drops in ground mineralization levels without the presence of metals would be read by the machine as a void. Do post what the geologist says. Hopefully you can find one who has experience with metal detectors.

That's what I was thinking.   You can see the same thing with Induced Polarization systems.

Very interesting device, Homefire. I'd love to see the results of such a scan around those volcanoes I been puttering around; always wondered just how deep those deposits go, and how much chalcopyrite is in those areas.

chalcopyrite

For the non-geologists out there, this person is talking about "fools gold"

I'm no geologist, but when I was a tweener, I thought I found gold in my backyard, and I was lucky enough to be living near a geologist at UBC in Vancouver.  He took the time to explain to me what I had really found Chalcopyrite!  I'll never forget that day! lol

I regard chalcopyrite as more of a copper-ore. First thing that springs to my mind when someone says "fools gold" is iron pyrite. But they both have their beauty and uses...and both have fooled many a person into thinking they struck gold. Smiley

Funny thing that FOOLS GOLD!   Theres gold in some of it.  We had a plant here in Deming that processed it for years and years making money.

Only the EPA stopped em.

Any place you find Iron, Copper, Silver, there will be a spot of gold in it.

The copper mines here in New Mexico make a significant bit of there profit in Gold coming from the Copper.

Yup thar's gold in them thar pyrites! Ran a few samples thru XRF. Unfortunately the amount of Au present was too little to make extraction on a small scale economically viable. The Mamut copper mine had 6gm of Au/MT of dirt, and that area's laden with pyrites.

hey Viracocha, how about some simple testing to start with. Buried coins at various depths. Could also try something a bit bigger like a beer can at a about 2 ft & se how it go's  Cool
