Hi Der Fisherman,

Thanks for that post, I?ve checked it out.
I can?t seem to access ?Stripboard Magic?, but ?Verodes? is a Freeware program and I?ve downloaded that, it looks as if it will be very useful, ?Lochmaster? was the only one I was aware of before your post, I just never got around to buying it.

Many thanks, Merry Christmas Mike.

Hi David & Edouard (Delamuerte),

Looks like you two are going to be keeping me busy with your boards after Xmas.
When I?ve finished it will be good to know that all the boards are working. Then you?ve got the next stage to do, turning them into detectors.

Merry Christmas Everyone,
Best regards Mike

Hello Mike . It sound like you are using the pre-umax schematic . Transistor Q-7 on the 2nd schematic I posted here is for the audio section  !! The first schematic the umax does not have a T-7 / Q7 . So your problem starts somewhere before the negative input of LM393 . Check if R-69= 27 Kohm and R-23 is 100 Kohm. Make sure IC 7 pin 2 and 3 are not reversed . Also check Disc pot 100k ohm that pins 1 and 3 are not reversed , if you are using schematic #2 . Regards.........Eugene

Hello.... When trying to download the four attachments below this post, I was able to download the first one, then each one thereafter failed, it has "error code 404" on attempts. Let me know when fixed. Thanks.

Hello Mike . Make sure C10 is 22 pf capacitor !!!  Not 130 pf !!  Here is one more Bandido schematic , this version is from Gary and the [chemelec site] .
Regards.......Eugene

Download the file below this post, and I get "404 attachment not found" too... Thanks.

Hello Melbeta . I have been off the Forum for a few weeks , I have also heard a few files are missing now , after the Forum switched to a better , Faster ? , server . So be patient and maybe they will be restored soon by the administrator . I have not been asked yet to re-post any schematics , and I still have all the files I posted here on this forum over the last year . We just have to be patient for a little bit longer . If you need something specific you can e-mail me .

Hi to everyone,
Just to let you all know that I have finally got my ?Discriminate? circuit to work on my detector.
As some may know I have been checking out Davidbat?s ?Stripboard? for him and getting it working. In the process I have taken readings from my board to compare with his.
I found at the junction of ?C9-R19' on David?s board I could see a ..very tiny pulse.. on the scope and not on mine. It turned out my board had a faulty component ?C9?, although when removed from the board, the value read correctly on my meter, when put back in it was not working.
I had previously removed and checked the values all the components around the 'Discrim.' circuit with my meter
I changed the component ?C9? and it works fine now.
It?s not a fault you would expect, when the value measures correctly and especially when you?re not sure if you should see any signal at the input to the Op-Amp anyway, because it?s so small.

David?s board is now working and I shall be sending that back to him soon.

All the best to everyone and Good Hunting this Year.

Hi David,
As you?re using a standard ?Hawkeye Coil? everything should work ok.

The first thing to do is to check the AC voltage between 0v and C17-R30 the output of the first stage, you should ideally read less than 200mV.

If you are reading greater than say 500mV then I think you need to experiment by changing  ?C15, if you use the next value higher or lower and note the change that should work (I?m guessing here and someone will correct me I?m sure).

I got the best reading myself using my home built coil by adjusting the number of turns on the Receive coil instead, and got it down to ?34mV? in the end.

Once you have done this, check the settings again.

The ?Threshold? volume level should set at around the middle point of the pot range.

The ?Ground balance is a difficult one and can?t really be set up until the detector is completely assembled, because the coil, the wire and the board need to move together as one. Any movement of one with respect to the other will give a false reading.

I hope this is useful and not too confusing
All the best Mike
