Eugene,

Have you actually built one of these? Are you actually discussing the XR-7 clone or another schematic for this one?

Hello Everyone . I built the Delta Pulse in 2006 which is almost identical to the sniffer / XR71 , and found large pieces of scrap metal over 3 feet using only a 30 cm/12 inch mono coil . I have the XR7 schematic somewhere and will post it here later . There was also a sniffer XR 6 !!!
HH.........Regards......Eugene

Hi Eugene,
I've gotta question or ten or so. This delta pulse does it work just as well being stable or must it be moved back and forth like a smaller coil detector?

PI detectors are normally non motion detectors.

Hi Golddigger-
How difficult would it be to set the circuit up so the signal goes into a data logger or laptop with say surfer software along with a gps to get some kind of idea as to what you are detecting- I may be way off here but I am so tired of digging soda cans. Another thought is once you get 3 foot plus with a detector would you not be just as well off switching to a mag? Plus you can get deeper- correct?

The signal you hear is analog and the data logger would be digital. You need an Analog to Digital converter and a time base for logging the data in coordination with mapping software. On as scale of 1 to 10 in difficulty, this is a 12.

There has got to be an easier method for you. This kind of bit and piece questioning is getting you nowhere. Without giving a specific location or a specific project, tell us what you are trying to find. Are you looking for a 55 gallon drum of gold coins? Are you searching for 20 gold coins that Grandpa hid on the old farmstead? A jar of coins? A buried Ferrari? Gold or silver ingots? Underground? Underwater? Give a synopsis and perhaps you will get some real world advice rather than more questions than answers.

Hi Golddigger
I was just asking in general, I did not mean to boggle minds- yours or mine- not hard to boggle mine-hahha- just thought about thinking on a wider path- just like if a mag could identify a target- I am just grasping for ideas to dig more of the good stuff. For instance pull tabs returning such a close signal to gold- pull tabs in my area are a regular. You know what I mean?

Pull tabs? What are they?

Hehehehe. Just kidding. Pull tabs are everywhere. I mean EVERYWHERE. Ever wonder why soda can designers spent all that time making a tab that would open the can without removing it but some yahoo comes along and breaks it off every time? I mean, come on!

You asked about a datalogger, GPS and computer all working with a metal detector. I thought perhaps you had a bigger project in mind than pull tabs. But if you are after a bucket of pull tabs, you go for it  mate! LoL!!

Then consider a magnetometer rather than a PI detector. An airborne one can be rented to fly over great areas looking for magnetic anomalies which would point you in the right direction a lot faster.

The US Navy uses them in the P3 Orion to detect submarines.
