Another good piece of advice would be to make sure you've got spare batteries with you or that you have fresh ones when you go to hit the field.  For the land hunters a coil cover is always a nice item to keep around as well.

i'd guess my best tip was to approach your site different ways on each time you visit a favorite site. n-w   s-e  n-s diagonally   circular  ect..

seems to me that some coins wont ring in unless the angle of the dangle is correct. Grin

The second best tip is use a small coil(6" or smaller) in trashy areas.

Always wear gloves when putting your hand(s) down a hole.  You never know when you will get into a bunch of rusty metal or glass.  I learned this the hard way.
