Detecting walking backwards that's good. I live on five acres, and have yet to say I am done. I always find a coin or two every time . Different season make for different areas to be checked.

Any Ideas for looking around galvonized fencing and galvenized post. You leave alot of area uncovered near them. Wise

OK guys you want a tip so here's one next time you go out on the hunt before you start detecting tie your shoelaces together.   You might laugh but you will cover more area and if you go real slow get signals over areas you had already detected and thought were cleaned out.   Cheesy

Yep!  I dont care how much you spent for your machine.   How many bells and whistles it has.

If you dont dig it all your going to miss something.

me too string...Smiley...I have found a walking liberty quarter under a pull tab years ago and it sounded off as a pull tab, but after digging that I searched the hole and got another hit...I was happy I dug the tab...Cheesy

I gotta go with "no such thing as hunted out". I look for places that others have said "don't waste your time It's been hunted out years ago".

Great ideas here adn I agree with all of them!!!

I keep a glove on my non detector hand all the time.

I find I'm alot nicer to an area when I use a pinpointer now if it's 3" or less I pinpoint after I kneel down and dig smaller holes.  I'm hooked on the Sunray probes work great if you don't mind a few more ounces.  Also great for rechecking the holes before you stand up again.

Learning to use a probe instead of a shovel all the time is also is a good tip to have less of impact to area.

Slower does seem better!

I agree with digging all targets.  I curse kneeling down to dig yet another pull tab but I know I won't have to dig it up next time

 Grin

Keep the ideas coming!!

This "tip" maybe second nature to veterans, but for new folks.... DON'T TAKE YOUR EYES OFF YOUR TARGET SPOT BEFORE YOU DIG

After spending a bit of time carefully "X"ing or pinpointing the target, you'll be amazed how much alike the grass blades look after taking your eyes off your spot for a split second.

I often recommend to beginners that they put a green fluorescent paper dot on the sweet spot of their coil - the target area center. Staring at it, then moving the coil away leaves a red dot image on your retina which makes seeing the exact digging spot incredibly easy. After a while, you can do without it but some folks I know still use it and replace their dots regularly.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.
