Beachcomer really does know what he is talking about guys, I had an ACE250, and a very well put together little machine it was. But horses for courses, as they say. It's an entry level detector, good for top of the beach, a detector that you can keep in the car, "just in case".
But if you are serious about finding the goodies down in the wet, you wont get far with the ACE 250 or 150.
I did some tests with my 250, -- full sensitivity and it could indicate a good target at a reasonable depth, knock the sensitivity down a couple of bars and I lost half the detecting depth, with sensitivity right back to just one bar, it would only find a target an inch down.
In the wet, the only way I could use it was with sensitivity down to one bar, if I had it up any higher, then it sounded off all the time.
As I said, I'm not knocking the ACE machines, they are well built and do a job, but down on the wet stuff, I really do beleive that you need a "serious" detector, -- Minelab, Whites, BBS, MBS, Pi. -- I don't know if other Garrets do the business on the beach because I have only had the ACE

Your response is like a lot of 250 users. At least the ones
with some experience.

I think that is well understood by experienced detectorist.

The Ace 250 is a good machine. It is so good, it has been
dominating the price range. Not only that, it could end up
being the most successful detector to date, as far as sales
go. That speeks for the quality of the machine.

If Hunter 007 has a problem with what we have been saying,
then, lets hear it. :Smiley

Honestly, I do not understand where he is coming from???

Happy Huntin,

Tabdog

Iv'e used my 250 on fresh water wet sand and dry sand. I did not have any problems....however salt might be a diffrent situation. I say take it and try it. You can always put it down.....

Just thought I would add a few comments on the wet salty sand Ace 250 debate, having just returned from a couple of days hunting on the beach here on the South West coast of England.
I have found that on dry sand they are fine once youve learned to only dig good repeating signals, coins from six inches or deeper, no problem.

However, the further down the beach you go and the wetter the sand gets , the less reliable the signals are. That isnt to say they are useless on wet sand, I did find some coins halfway down the beach in well saturated sand, I also dug a lead weight actually underwater at a depth of approx 8", with a good strong signal. So you will find things, but at the same time I had many other strong signals that turned out to be absolutely nothing, even with the sensitivity turned right down.Which is a bit confusing and certainly frustrating. So I would say, yes they are good detectors, but if youre serious about beach detecting on the wet area of the beach, get something other than the 250, youll find things yes, but youll miss a lot more.

I've used the Ace 150 at the beach for three weeks now. Lots of coins and pull tabs. If all you have is the Ace 250 use it if your at the beach. Just keep it dry. As for the depth of your hunt a shallow hunt can be good for finds also. Just a thought....

Hi all! First post.

As a totally new enthusiast. I blitzed the forums and vids to make an informed decision on what to buy... Tempted by the chinese ebay special XJ9-3050, but decided to spend extra on a proven and popular ACE 250. Alot of detectors just look very dated for the money they cost, even if the technology behind the new models isn't revolutionary, they just look the part.

If I had the money the XP Gold maxx is top of my list, after watching Regton's review on YouTube. Recovery time is way better than other similar priced machines.

Anyway to my point...

I live not too far from the sea here in the UK, and as it's winter time at the mo, the sand is damp/wet throughout. And basically it is completely useless on mineralised/wet sand.

9 out of 10 digs produced absolutely nothing and to confirm how bad the unit is... When you use pinpoint, it instantly beeps all the time... unless you turn sensitivity to the lowest notches. Yep, watching Crackbadger youtube vids, he highlighted how best to use the ACE 250 on sand, but to no avail.

It's a great shame. I don't blame the device, as for the price, it will be good when the warmer weather arrives. But, as I want to get my missus interested as well, it isn't a great way to show how much fun it can be... digging holes for nothing.

Maybe that ACE of yours was the wild card in the pack in other words the joker.
If you want to find goodies on a beach then use a PI machine and start getting some results like the pro's do. Do some research on real beach machines if you want to find gold.

As a matter of fact, Maxrealty, your CS 220 would do better, even for relic hunting.

Your 250 will ideed pay itself back on the dry beaches when te summer months arrive, no doubt.

For a next purchase, you should first consider waht you will find and where. Makes things easier.

HH
