well i read somewhere as of late, barry clifford arrived on the scene sometime back in august, the other i believe may include a mr paul hawkins and his team outta bristol england , me personally i think that somehow along the lines one of the teams has mistook the buzzards hoard for kidds treasure,as it appears to me that one chart that was made a very long time ago appears to look like kidds treasure chart disguised purposley,i could dwell on it more and give the location away buttttt,,,,,, where do i go from here ? someone please tell me who i can contact ,,,, any ideas?Huh??   Hello Brassmonkey  It seems unlikely that these two treasure legends should get mixed up
You can send me more info on what you know, I still don't think that there would be a link between the two. Its interesting theory All the same   Cool

Hello Brassmonkeywithballs

Gee I think I started something with brass balls thing. Grin

Interesting comments about Barry Clifford and Paul Hawkins. However I have a problem with connecting the Kidd legend with Olivier Le Vasseur, however I must admit kind of interesting Idea. Kidd was hanged at execution dock in 1701 and Olivier Le Vasseur was hanged on July, 1730. They might operated in the same region but they are 3 decades apart from each other.

How can they be possibly connected? Huh?

Oh Thanks again Luc as always with an interesting post and links. Great

Hello All

Olivier Levasseur in 1720 captured Nossa Senhora do Cabo (Our Lady of the Cape) or Virgem Do Cabo (The Virgin of the Cape) belonging to The Titular Patriarch of the East Indies ( the Bishop of Goa ) when he was returning to Portugal.

The bishop of Goa must of been Sebasti?o de Andrade Pessanha (1716-1720) Here is a picture of him below.

It might be interesting to find out if there are any personal papers still in existence of his version of events?

Any ideas where to find them?

Hardluck Huh?

Hello wuzneme

Happy new year to you too.

Thanks for the interesting book link.

I found a book dated 1835 about the bishops of Goa that stated the Bishop used to have a silver cross paraded around before him where ever he went in India. However this was a later Bishop than Sebastian de Andrade Pessanha.

So perhaps the later bishop was emulating an earlier practice?

Hardluck

Go Up Go Down

Hi all,

Planning a sailingtrip to the Seychelles I wanted to get an update on the Somalian pirate situation in the area, when I stumbled over the story of Lavasseur, and got amazed by the fascinating story. Surfing around a for while, I found this forum, where I see that you have some interesting discussion going on.

I like Hardlucks idea of "question everything", and I have some more questions for you:

Why carrying around a cipher of a hidden treasure? If I hide a treassure i would never forget that location. So, the cipher must be addressed to someone else (who has the key to read it). However, why has this person not got it?
Also, what person may Levasseur want to share his treasure with?

Hiding a treasure of the suggested size takes some men to do it. These men would not forget the location, so either they were killed or they picked up the treassure after Levasseures death.

Making underwater tunnels, riddles, etc takes alot of effort and time, and even more of men (who has to be killed). It is also quite inconvenient for either Levassuer or who ever he wanted to give the cipher to (who would have quite a hard time figuring all that out) to pick up the treasure later on. Why bother with all that?
