Hi Casca, when i test my or any machine i got a square rusty bolt head and put a small copper type coin size 3/8" and placed it
3/8" apart then put an iron roof nail 3/8" from the coin and the f4 was the only one in the shop that could seperate the coin and
the other machines were very good machines but they could'nt do it so to me it showed how good it could work in heavy junked
areas and i did manage to clear an area in my yard of which is full of junk in the ground from WWII

OK!

Home Made BFO ( YEP BFO)  I use it to locate black sand deposits to pan gold.

Works most well for the job.

I can tell Metal from Mineral !

Garrett S3 for gold hunting.   VLF Running at 15 KHz (Hot on Gold) cost me nothing and it does the job. Batteries last about 50 hours.  Light to use.

Garrett ADS running at 5.5KHz  Coin Killer, Relic Snatcher.  Gotta eat your Wheaties before lugging this one all day.

Battery Muncher, Extraordinaire!  But boy does it do the job.

Modified Garrett XL-500 Sea Hunter.   Modified to bring the sample times down below 17us it's able to see a 1/2 gram gold nugget at about 6-8".

Bulky Heavy but hip mounted you can swing it all day long. Or until the batteries take a Poop!

In Progress is the Sirf Pi project.  Hope to be able to bring sample times below 10us. Using a Spiral Etched coil we will see how it progresses up the ladder for gold machines.

nowadays, when I reach into the back of the truck to pull one of the detectors out, it's usually the Fisher F4  (and I make sure I carry the 4" coil out into the field with me if I have a bigger coil on it when I pull it out of the truck)

AU, I do appreciate that info. I like my lil bounty hunter, it rocks and rolls, and if I run over it, Im not out a lot. It does just enough to work for me.

The F4 has been added to my very short list of machines for inspection. There is some sites I need that kind of disrimination. I wont hunt them without it, so they go unhunted. AU, have you posted your results, can you post the link, I get overwhelmed looking for stuff here.

Thank you BA, its always to get confirmation on what others are posting.

Homefire, Pardon me, your experience is showing. Thats my kind of science.

I also have a cheapo Harbor Freight my brother gave me. It read ferrous and non ferrous. How would I know if its BFO or not? Thats important as I sometimes pull it out before I go deep.

How can adjusting the sample times help with target ID? Is this so you can speed up your swing?

Being in your same general area, you say the Garret S3 can detect gold? I have some screened I need to detect before I make landscape out of it. Would you share your thoughts on your success rate for placer with the garret S3? I have never heard of this machine, so I need to read up on it, and see if it warrents my attention.

Im not touching a PI machine. I can barely make the Bounty Hunter work.....ha ha.

Sure wish this was a "what is your favorite drywasher" thread. I built a drywasher yesterday, Im only missing the part that works. I have favored the Tesero's since I first read about them. I dont see much on the Fishers, but not looking in the right place. I think its like GD said what do you like. I have a good coin shooter that works everywhere so far. I need a deep machine. and those are gonna cost me plenty clad. But I dont want a machine that goes 20 feet. Smiles.

Hey Karl, get ya a 4 inch coil for that sucker, you will really be surprised.

Where do i get a 4" coil for a BH Pioneer 101 Huh??

Hey Karl, I found several 4 inch coils in the $35.00 dollar range. Amazon, Ebay, or I got mine used from a another member of a forum.

I do believe all Bounty Hunter coils fit most machines. Be sure to check for compatability. This is normally a $69.00 dollar coil new. Might want to pick up a scuff cover too. The 4 inch coil doesnt like to be beat against a rock like the 8 inch coil.

Homefire, the Garret S3 has the Threashold adjustment too, that explains a lot. Have you adjusted the POT on it also?

I never considered the ace or f4 as serious machines.

Thats a problem with a lot of folks they are not looking at what a detector can do but price, throwing money at the problem want fix it. On a day to average more coins and jewelery is found with the ace fisher and bounty hunters then with the high dollar detectors. I got a ace 250 setting in the shop right now with less then 5 hrs on it that a guy wants me to sell for him this is his third time in 3 months he has upgraded. He went from a BH QD to a BH Pioneer then to the 250 all together he has not hunted 20 hr. now he has ordered a Minelab which I bet I own in 90 days are less. The point is any of these machines would have paid for its self if he had spend time using it and learned it.

Seldom, exactly why I havent bought a Tesero yet. Older Garrets and something called a Discovery Electronics do pretty much the same thing. But I need a specific machine. The Garret 2500 does most of what I want, but I dont use a detector enough to justify the cost. Gotta have goals right? That little Harbor Freight makes a great pinpointer, and tells me to stop digging if it isnt metal. Guess its how you use the machines too. As for Bounty Hunters, great beginners machine. I compare machines alot and the Garret Scorpion, and Whites V3, and another machine that has 98 frequencies all running at the same time have my attention right now. But Im not going to run out an buy them.
