Hey!
Guy!
I just about, got everything done under the JEEP!
Well!   Wink
Tomorrow, I got to hook up the transfer case, but I'm hoping to have it on the road in a couple of days.. (Road testing, anyhow)
Then I can start packing up the the trip!
SAY!    Grin
What do you say, "We" invite "Goldfinger" (Steve) to go on a short trip into "The Supers" ?
I'd like to go back and see if that which was in "Haunted Canyon "   Shocked   is still there?
We'd only be a short hike from the LDM Area.
We could go over and check it out for any gold bearing formations!
WHAT DO YOU SAY STEVE ?

I actually HAVE visited Apache Junction and the surrounding area a few times and have talked with many of the locals as well as a few treasure hunters. The majority say the actual "mine" is actually  a "treasure trove" that consist of gold from other areas  and not a real gold mine. They also say  the Lost Dutchmans Mine story is good for the local economy since a lot of people spend time looking for it. I concur. Grin

Goldfinger:
"You Concur" with the "locals" !
Who's saying that "They're" right?
Besides...
About 99.99% of the "Locals" , are not ,"Locals" !   Cheesy
They were born somewhere else and moved out to "AJ" recently!
I KNOW!
Because when I was out there, in my HS & College Days, passing thru "AJ" on my way to the "Supers", or to "Canyon Lake",
There was nothing out there    :Smiley
Except for, the Old AJ Store/gasstation/restaurant, complex!
AND! Besides,
They! "The Locals", are just going by what They Have HEARD !
Its the old :
How do geologists tell the age of fossils ?
Why!
By the age of the rocks they are found in!
&
How do geologist tells the age of the Rocks ?
Why!
By the age of the fossils that are found in them!   :Smiley
BUT!
If you're in the habit of Believing "Locals" !
                     "Believe Me!"     Grin
Why!
Well! Because!
I'm  "local(er)", then 99.99999% of any of them!

With lots of actual research and field work in/on The Superstitions" !
Hay!
ASK! These "Locals", what ever happened to The Dutchman's Partner ?    Huh?

That's ok Steve. Not everyone will believe, and that's fine with me. There is proof, physical proof, so that works for myself. A lot of the truth about the mine is far from public knowledge. It's a hydrothermal deposit, which as your geologist friend will tell you, forms in the rings of Calderas. There are at least 3 caldera complexes in the range, including the main wall of the mountain seen from Apache Junction. There is not a single dutchman mine, but 18 such mines. Believe what you will, that's ok by me Smiley I'm not trying to convince you, just sharing some information I'm sure you didn't hear during a few visits to the area.

There is also a lot of tales about a large treasure in the mountains, and I believe that to be true also. I know of one immensly huge treasure that was up there, most of it taken out a while ago. Ther rest might still be up there, I haven't made it up to the area to find out yet. There is more to be seen.

You see, not all of it is about the local economy. That's what the stories are for, and they are great stories for sure. There is a lot of truth in those stories too, you gotta see through the fog sotospeak..

Bill,
I'd love to go hiking with anyone up there. I'm pretty familiar with the area, as I'm sure you are also. It's beautifull back there.

Just because 70% of the people in Arizona come from somewhere else doesn't make them all ignorant people. The people of Apache Junction have been reading stories and reports for years and are perfectly capable of making intelligent and rational judgments - perhaps more then the average person from out of state.

If you can produce a single report from the USGS or a reputable mining company that talks about an economically viable deposit of gold in the Superstition Mtns- perhaps I'll buy the fact there could be a Lost Dutchmans Mine.

Until then- there's only two possibilities-

#1- It's just a cache that contains  gold taken from other mines or treasure that was obtained from somewhere else.

#2- Lost Dutchmans Gold mine belongs in the same category as Santa Claus- the Easter Bunny- Alien Abductions and Little Green Men from Mars.

First Off !
Before that can be done, "produce a report" .
Would you define the boundary of the Superstition Mnts, ie: No./East/So./West ?
Such as : The Northern Most Border...
Two parts ....
(1)The Northeast part, would be, south of The Salt River, west, from Roosevelt Dam, to Canyon Lake (the CenterPoint) , then, the remainer,
 (2) The NW portion, along the road, west to AJ.
That would comprise The Northern Boundary !
OK!
Now you define the rest .

A lot of people don't know that when Jake was alive, the Superstitions were a lot bigger than they are now, and included Goldfield and a lot of the area to the South. Plus the range run way further East than most people think it does....

djui5:
Randy,
That's Precisely !
Why I asked "Goldfinger" to define "his" Superstition Mnts!
As anyone who has visited Goldfield knows, it still has/there is  "Gold"!  [/glow

It was kind of a " Trick Question " !    :Smiley
