In the beginning when the wreck was first discovered, it was noticed that coins were being found on the beach after a storm. Of course these later led to the wreck being found. But, they never have found the main ballast and treasure pile, so they keep searching. Do find coins and occasionally other artifacts in the water. If you go back into this topic further, you will find more discussion on this site. It is interesting.

I have told it many times before . Fishing for dimes  is nice but going after the main load is different . What they find on Jupiter Inlet are only scattered coins . Nice , but not what you are after .  The main wreck is to the South East . Now , if nobody wants to go after the main cargo , so be it !     Cornelius

That is your theory, but it has not been proven, you should give it a try if you are near there. I'm sure if you found the site of the main load they would give you a cut. I feel that much of it may be under the sands of the state park, on the left side of the inlet, that had been filled in years ago, but there is no way to prove that for sure. I think much of where the main wreck lies may have depended on which way the wind was blowing and what tide it was running with. A high tide could have run it inland to where I suggested, where as a low tide could put it where you say. I have never checked into it as I am too far away to ever bother about it.

Here is the Polly-L working real close to shore  at Jupiter Inlet. That is the closest I have seen anyone work., but I do think he is just testing that area. Interesting anyway and a nice view of the wreck barge. After it comes up, click on picture to enlarge it.

If the picture has changed, it is because the ship has moved and it is a live photo feed.

Anyone have any idea how the 1715 fleet subcontractors have done so far this year?

No salvage company has been hunting in the water here yet due to lousy conditions. But what is going on down in Jupiter, is they are dredging sand from the Jupiter inlet and putting it on the beach at Jupiter. Might be worth a check by someone local as you never know what they might suck up out of the inlet. There seemed to be a lot more beach errosion this year than last year, so they have to do it again. Means more sand goes out over the areas the boats usually search, sure doesn't help them guys.

Yea JCP,

I have been at Turtle, Sea grape and Chuck's Steakhouse (at Bonsteel) while the remnants of Dennis were blowing through. Those cuts weren't as good as I hoped and only found one 8 Reale. That came out of a dune about 400 yards North of Chuck's. I've known a lot of guys with a lot better luck. No matter what though, the winds have to blow out of the North to Northeast for them to effectively create the cuts we need. There have been recent hurricanes that did absolutely nothing because the surf came straight in. I've found some interesting artifacts at Sea grape after a constant 30-35 mph wind from the NE not associated with a storm. Winter Nor'easter are as good (sometimes better) than hurricanes.
What we're really looking for is not simply small cuts in the sand, but cuts all the way down to the hard pan. This is where everything eventually winds up. At Turtle and Sea grape that is normally five to ten feet down. The other place to look is at the base of the dunes. The dunes hold artifacts and treasure which are periodically washed out. Good Luck.

Aquanut

Hey Aquanut, you still on here? Looks like 2010 was a slow year other than the girls finding the golden bird.
