Hi Everyone,
I've had a lot of experience hunting the treasure of the 1715 Plate fleet off Sebastion , Florida, both under the water and on the beaches.
I'll be glad to share all I know with anyone who may be interested.

I have hunted the beaches around Turtle etc.. a few years ago, never found anything from the wrecks. Missed the hurricanes by a year or so. Have you done well on the beaches? And have you hunted the beaches just after the hurricanes?

Yea JCP,

I have been at Turtle, Seagrape and Chuck's Steakhouse (at Bonsteel) while the remnants of Dennis were blowing through. Those cuts weren't as good as I hoped and only found one 8 Reale. That came out of a dune about 400 yards North of Chuck's. I've known a lot of guys with a lot better luck. No matter what though, the winds have to blow out of the North to Northeast for them to effectively create the cuts we need. There have been recent hurricanes that did absolutely nothing because the surf came straight in. I've found some interesting artifacts at Seagrape after a constant 30-35 mph wind from the NE not associated with a storm. Winter Nor'easters are as good (sometimes better) than hurricanes.
What we're really looking for is not simply small cuts in the sand, but cuts all the way down to the hardpan. This is where everything eventually winds up. At Turtle and Seagrape that is normally five to ten feet down. The other place to look is at the base of the dunes. The dunes hold artifacts and treasure which are periodically washed out. Good Luck.

I heard the police were running people off the beach almost immedately after the hurricanes ended, did you have or see any of this happening?

The police don't run you off the beach. They do put up roadblocks to prevent access to anyone who can't prove residence on the islands. However, if you're there already, or are willing to sneak a boat across, once you're there, they just warn you of the dangers.

That sounds more reasonable, I have heard from other sites where people were told they had to leave due to the dangers, whatever they may be. I think there is sometimes an agenda by some people to keep other people away. I knew about the cut hunting, but was never there during the right times for any serious cuts. My sister lives in Port St. Lucie, so maybe some year I can hit it right. With the economy the way it is, I don't expect to be going soon though. I would like to move down there, but selling my house up here would be difficult now. Good luck in your hunting.

The beaches ARE extremely dangerous, even at the end of these storms. You may even want to tie yourself to a tree on the dunes because it is very easy to get washed out. I stay as close to the dune as possible and still have been nearly grabbed by the surf. I can tell you that it really isn't the smart way to go... but then again, we are TREASURE HUNTERS!

Yes, I have been caught in the undertow a few times, even though I was a strong swimmer it still beat me up pretty good. I grew up on the water and did some pretty wild things when young.

I been through a few of the hurricanes here in the Northeast, I used to go out and film them. I knew enough to always plan an escape route in case of tide surges, and knew enough to never play in the waves. Hurricane waves are unpredictable, no timing of them and no knowing the return pull. The tree thing is the likely senario for most at the storm height. Been done that way for ages in the South Pacific, just got to hope the tree don't go down.
