Sorry to say Cornelius,
but it appears that your posts were deleted from Tnet. If you remember, I agreed with your position about the wind.
Most wrecks salvaged along the east coast of Florida followed a "Banana pattern" from the Southeast to the northwest. My theory on the Jupiter Wreck puts the main wreck to the Southeast at approximately 1200 to 1600 yards.
We'll see if it proves out.
Aquanut

Hard to estimate the distance and i think the water depth has much to do with it, but I agree on the SE direction. But I doubt much would remain as a main site, due to the ship likely getting pounded and breaking up and washed across the area to where the present lease is. That is why I figure there may be a long field of scattered debri instead of a main site. I still think some of it could be way deep under the beach sand and even further Westward, where the original 1600's inlet was, which is now partly land mass.

The lighter stuff was displaced toward the shore  ( inlet )  . The heavier stuff is more to the South East of where the coins were found . A survey of the bottom will probably get us closer to the wreck site . The original ship was pounced to pieces and cannot be found back as such . The cannon and the anchor may be still in place . From thereon the field will reach to the shore on a South East line . Any ridge on the bottom ( be it a reef or rocky outcrop ) will most likely be the spot where the ship was wrecked because of ground swells  . It would be nice to spend a few weeks checking the area . As I said before a side scan sonar will not work . In order to detect the cannon and the anchor you have to use a magnetometer or simply a PI Detector with enough reach  . My DBP 2010 would easily reach a cannon at 30 Ft . Good hunting .   Cornelius

Great discussion. I have tried to ascertain in my mind the general location and movement of the  hurricane in relation to the sinking of the 1715 fleet ships and the winds at different points in time of that tragedy. Thanks for everyones posts on this. Cornelius, I would like to see a copy of your post you put on tnet regarding the wind. If anyone has it I would be grateful if you would pm it to me.

Hey Wiser,
Sorry it took so long for me to see your message. It has been forever since I last visited this site.  I do not know your friend. I attended the winter class of 1976 at Divers Training Academy. I was 24 years old then. I am an old fart now but still diving.

Anyone here notice if anyone is working on boats on the 1715 area? I still see no one working the Jupiter site.  Water looks fairly calm so I figure they must be out in the 1715 area.

JCinCT. The Jupiter wreck is a claim of Mell Fisher . The dude that was diving on it had very little result . Only a few coins at a time . That would not have even paid for the groceries .  He had a lot of buddy divers in the beginning but I think they got tired of the adventure . He may not have renewed his claim with the Fishers  . Serves him right . As you notice he is no friend of mine  .  Cornelius

I read where he got the sublease from a friend of his who lives inland, somewhere like Orlando. So I don't think that is a Fisher lease, and never was. The original lease belonged to the diver who originally found it and he may be the guy that still owns it. True they weren't finding much, but some is better than none and I read his main thing was having the adventure, more than any money he made from it. Maybe his lease ran out.

The reason no one has yet been working on the Jupiter wreck is... because he is busy working on some of his land business properties that he owns. He said he will be working on it soon. Hope he does well this year.

His boat is the Seahunter, so he probably did. Seems like a nice guy to me from what I have read of him, and by what he emailed me.  I don't know him personally as I live here in CT., not Florida. Rather be in Florida though.

Anyone ever consider there may be 3 Treasure wrecks at Jupiter Inlet. One on the Northside of the inlet, and two intermingled on the South side of the inlet?    Dell
