This isn't quite the 1715 fleet stuff but it is just down the coast a few miles and concerns the Jupiter Wreck right near the inlet. If you click on the link, you will see a beach cam that is showing that they are putting about 40 feet of new beach sand on the beach, and the sand is being dredged in from the inlet. Could be good or could be bad, if you want to hunt the beach after they finish, it will possibly mean that anything in the inlet would be in the beach sand. It could be some coins from the wreck get deposited, but due to fact that the inlet was way different before they put the seawall next to the inlet, it might not happen. It looks like a bad thing for the guys that salvage what is left of the wreck also, as this sand will slowly flow out and cover anything even deeper. There is a line of a rock/coral formation that was about 50 feet out from the beach, and now it looks like it will be closer or right about at the water line at low tide. Might be a good area to hunt as long as you aren't in the water itself as this is a leased territory and forbidden area to water hunt.  So much for progress. I wonder if they will go the lenght of the beach on this, probably, sure will hurt the surfers too.

JCPinCT, thanks for the heads up. Didn't know they had the dredge working. May drop by there this evening to see if anything good is coming out of the pipe.

Regards,

Thunter

Looks like they are doing the whole beach. They sure pumped a lot of sand in there. It must go out to near the rocks/coral that the guys were blowing holes near a year or so ago. They found some coins in that area. At a real low tide, that area might be huntable. Good Luck.

That's very nice of you aquanaut. I'd like to know  where a good beach arera is that my wife and I could search. I've read about those wrecks many times and once even tried an area near where  [detecting]the "Cabin Wreck" was, but found nothing. Detecting

I'd love to tell you that if you went to the hot spots that you'll find something. But the truth about beach hunting the 1715 fleet is that  the sand buildup is so high that the probability of you finding anything old is almost non existent. We all wait for Nor'Easters or hurricanes to rid the beaches of the sand. The coins and artifacts from the shipwrecks are on the hardpan now. Sifting down through the sand over the years until they can go no further. When they storms hit, we work the base of he dunes. The reason being that most of the beach finds will come out of the dunes. Coins washing IN from the ocean is an unlikely scenario. When the water recedes, we hit the exposed hardpan. Where exactly are you going to stay? Reason being, I'd steer you towrds places a little less visited if you are close enough.

Back in 1985, I was stationed at Patrick AFB.

After a kick butt storm, I took two guys out to the beach by the Cabin site.

Between the two of them, they found 11 Reale Coins.

What did I find?   Not a Dang Thing! :'(

Did they Share?   Not a Dang Thing!

Did I show them the other Site markers I found?    Not a Dang Thing!

Have you all seen this web site?

Have Fun if you can!"

It's out there!

Only the Storms will throw it on the Beaches!

It can't last for ever.

Are you all still finding coins on the beach?

Wet line!

Well it is getting near the calm water season again. Boats will be heading out to hunt for that good ole treasure soon. Lets hope they have better hunting this year than last year. I been watching the Jupiter wreck area on the net, and so far the weather there hasn't been too good. Should calm down soon, and the guys will be out again. With the new sand replenishment on the beach this winter, the boat will only be out about 75-150 feet from the beach area.

Hey USCGCAPT,

I was wondering if you happened to know/remember a very close friend of mine who attended the diving school you spoke of about 28 years ago.

His name was Mark Ballis, in his twenties and he was from Maryland. Tragically he died in a motorcycle accident (there in Fl.) while following his dream and attending the school.

I just thought that maybe...

Please let me know.

Thanks,

Wiser

Heard nothing about any finds on the beach from the sand being pumped in from the inlet. No one out doing the Jupiter Wreck site yet either. Water is at 80 degrees, but too many bad days of weather I guess. Funny thing about the Jupiter wreck is they never have found the main part of the wreck. It is probably up the inlet a bit under the change of the old inlet to the newer one, or deep under the present beach.
