I apologize, I misspoke. I thought he said he was in the campground with it on a trailer.

Why is everyone so Fixated on HE BROKE THE LAW while the man has not even had his day in court?

He wouldn't be in court if he didn't break the law. End of story.

Whether or not he is found guilty is no guarantee that he did NOT break the law. His stance is that he was charged after a mandated period of time. Nowhere has he ever said he was innocent. He has only said that those accusing him are wrong. Not that he is innocent. So far, he is making a fool out of everyone here who buys his story without seeing ALL of the evidence against him. In fact, he may be lying just to gain support. The park rangers I have met are always very reasonable people and often let transgressions go for an apology.

Case in point. We were in the Petrified Forest once with a group of Boy Scouts. One of them picked up a tiny stone and put it in his pocket. Unfortunately for him, he was seen by a part ranger. After an apology and his volunteered (he was not asked about this - he came up with it on his own) offer to clean up around the garbage cans at the rest rooms, he was not charged nor fined but instead given a severe reprimand.

Randy needs to pay his fine and move on. He does NOT need to drag anyone into the quagmire of his own making. After this is over, we do need to start some serious discussions about how to reverse some of these intrusive laws. But not by breaking them. That's a fool's method.

GD, I sure wouldn't want you on my jury! Whatever happened to "Presumed innocent until proven guilty!" Your self righteous opinions help perpetuate the loss of our freedoms as these laws are being put forth and used against us.

Agreed.

Over the years I have seen dozens of folks stopped on Padre Island with metal detectors in their car/ truck, what happens then is up to the person involved. If the folks are respectful to the rangers and explain they or on vacation or what ever, 99% of the time they are just told not to take the MD out of the car in the park and/or the ranger will  take the MD write a recite and let them stop and pick up the MD when they leave the Island. But most times the person starts yelling I have rights etc to the point where the ranger gets pissed off takes the MD and writes a ticket. Now this clown has to go to court where he will be found guilty and fined, plus he loses his MD.
This is why I keep saying there is more to this then we will ever know.

I have had it, I've tried to explain what is happening and why Randy is doing what he is.  Some, for whatever reason, don't understand and others choose not to understand.  Whatever the reason I will not comment on this again, but in I will leave with this last thought:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me -- and there was no one left to speak for me.

I've been on the Receiving end of the Judicial System.

I know what they can do.

You do NOT have to be Guilty to pay the Price.

They can Out Spend You, Out Lawyer You and Play Golf with the Judge.

Anyone that thinks other wise is in for a Ride some time in there life. Cry

You don't even have to step over the line.    They can just say you did.

Self righteous opinion? The law is not an opinion, it is the law. Like it or not. If you don't like it, I suggest getting involved at the grass roots level in your area by going to meetings and contacting your local politicians for some REAL change. I'm as concerned as you are these days, and I love to bitch about the govt. But I also had parents that spent most of their lives in politics. Doing the right thing by holding local positions. I'm not sure if the economy scares me more, or if some of the newly "awakened" and their freedom gusto does. If we have a well informed public, and a solid grass roots effort, things would be much different. It's easy to get caught up in emotion and gripe, I do it alot. But I also talk to the right people and obey the law. Gramps, with all due respect...I understand. But you can choose your action, you CANNOT choose the consequences of those actions. The law does that.  I also believe that silence is golden, and these days gold is up and is a rock solid investment lol. So I'll stfu on this thread.

You missed the point entirely. BTW I don't need to be lectured. I was one of the key factors in getting the latest legislation limiting our interests in treasure hunting/metal detecting squashed here in Florida.
