And those who support breaking the law are leaving in droves. Hopefully, you'll come to your senses one day.

Well OK good bye As I see it no big deal we don't need folks that agree that breaking the law is OK just because they don't like it Stop blaming big brother or city hall for your problems and look at how we got here

Please pin GD's response to top of original post. I think this has been said several different ways. We should not promote civil disobedience or breaking the law.

I've put GD on my ignore list. I don't need to listen to such drivel.  Good bye.

Well, that makes it much neater for me to criticize you without you interfering. Well done, mate. You really punished me, you did.

Sometimes people just simply amaze me. He promotes lawless behavior and sticks his fingers in his ears when someone calls him on it. Shame on him.

I guess that leaves me as one of the few remaining folk around here who actually condones the use of "Civil Disobedience" (the willful and deliberate violation of a law or set of laws).   However, I believe civil disobedience should be applied only against the most egregious laws and only after more reasonable and traditional means have been exhausted.   Basically civil disobedience is the last option available before armed rebellion/resistance.   Civil disobedience is an alternative (and frequent precursor) to open rebellion.   As such it should never be taken lightly or entered into for trivial reasons.  I can think of a lot more important "tyrannies" to address through civil disobedience than the one apparently at the root of this dispute.

Aquanut, you said "I've put GD on my ignore list. I don't need to listen to such drivel.  Good bye."    That's certainly your privilege, but by doing so you are cutting yourself off from the postings of one of the finer minds on the board -- especially when it comes to technical issues.   Seems to me like you're cutting your nose off to spite your face over a minor difference in political opinion.  Same thing applies to you Gramps.  If you want to take your ball and run because you disagree with someone over a matter like this on a forum that mostly deals with other issues, go right ahead.  You've made some good contributions in the time you've been here and you could probably make some more if you stuck around, but heck it's a free forum and YOU live in a "free" country (or at least it used to be), so go ahead--leave.  I doubt if it will cause the website to fold.   But if you change your mind and want to stay, then that's ok, too.   Just remember when it comes to politics and religion, people here do NOT have to agree with you.  AND you may not always be either right or in the majority--so deal with it.

BA

Your Not the Only one.

Unlike others that have Claimed HE BROKE THE law, I'm waiting for the Courts to decide that.

Personally, I think he was caught up in the Ineptness of the System.

One Entity says it was OK to Dredge, Another Says it was a Scenic River, Another says he was Polluting.

As it is alway said, Ignorance of the Law is no excuse.

But what if the Law and regulation authorities can't keep up with there own crap?

an alleged crime is not a crime until it is proven in a court of law (reasonable doubt), golddigger you are wrong on so many levels its not even worth reading  your posts anymore.
you say that he wouldnt be in trouble unless he broke the law and that people dont have these problems unless they did the crime?
you are WRONG again!!!!
the court system is set up in this country to protect the public and you are innocent until PROVEN guilty (end of story) it is not up for debate and all of the socialist rhetoric in the world wont change that FACT.
oh and by the way i am the president of the north central Texas chapter of the GPAA and a full time prospector/miner and i have never heard anything come from any member of any club that even remotely resembles your pro socialist views about dredging/mining,the unconstitutional violation of our rights as miners by the forestry officials, epa, blm and environmentalists (tree huggers) as well as the total disregard of mining laws which were set into law over 100 years ago.
The burden of proof is on the court not the miner/dredger and i will reinterate the fact that he is innocent until proven guilty and no matter how many times you argue and disagree with that fact you wont change it.
if you feel the need to argue this point just send me a pm and i will reply with what i really think of your views but i wont argue these facts in open forum, they stand for themselves in the law and have done so for a couple hundred years.

John

Homie is right about rules, and actually what the law says. Even if the guy wins, he looses. Now doesnt mean just pay the fine and forget about it. But since this is a touchy area, its a simple matter of picking up the phone or a simple email to the BLM/Forresty Service. I think I would have discussed it with at least park Rangers upon entry, sometimes they have some good ideas. We are people, we make mistakes. Unless cowboy was treated unfairly by being singled out, or there is something we arent being told. This should not be a issue.

I have a issue with the Rio Grande water levy system. I like to fish and the Rio provides some good fishing. But I was told that you could not fish the Rio Grand while in the city or corporation limits. This is because the EBID put up no trespassing signs. I now drive 70 plus miles one way and fish there, on the Rio Grande. Some rules just dont make sense. Especially when I have one of the smaller levys running through my front yard.

you know who

You'd better read that yourself, mate. It supports what I have been saying all along. As to my political bent, I am so far right wing that when Rush steps to the right, he lands on my toes. Deal with it. Oh, and perhaps some remedial reading lessons for you, mate?

Now, you knuckleheaded moron, here's what you fail to grasp. Get it and then move on. I DO NOT SUPPORT THE LAWS IN QUESTION. What I do support, is obeying them as long as they ARE law. End of story. If you have anything more to say, please think twice about saying it and trying to slam dunk me. I am a law abiding citizen of the United States of America and a supporter of the US Constitution. When a law is created that is unjust, I fight the law. I do not break it just to prove a point.

Now all of you who support breaking the law instead of changing it, please cover your heads in shame.
