Hi Xavier,
I was on the Silver Dollar beach today and 4 people came over and asked me was i looking for the silver dollars! I walked miles and miles as you know with my bloody detector and that's all i was picking up was lead sinkers!! but as you said there's money in them as i found out last year when i told a friend about the sinkers i was finding he said his mate would buy them off me because he was a keen fisherman so then i was using the money for petrol for my next trip, there's a good book out on the dollar wreck and other wrecks off the Welsh coast  it's called ( Historic Shipwrecks of Wales ) by Dilys Gater ISBN 0-86381-216-3 If you were interested but unable to obtain there i don't mind posting it to you so let me know? you may get it online but its a good read Wink
                                                                                                          Regards Phil
P.S. Ask that lady if she wants to buy my sinkers !!!! Funny

 Grin Grin Hi Phillip

Here is what you could do get a few drums one for lead one for coper and one for aluminum then at the end of the year you sell it all I'll bet that you will be able to buy a new memory card for your camera. Hows that for a plan Ho and remember the more junk you take off the beech the more chance you have of finding something good so you win both ways. I went to the beech two days ago as we had a spring tide but the sea had brought in so much sand that it was useless so you see even when you think that conditions will be ideal you have a deception but there is always next time never give up it will come. I will have a look to see if our local library has the book as we have very good libraries here in SA not to mention great museums too but thanks for the offer  Great I will keep it in mind.

Regards Xavier

Hello Phil

Thank you for the pictures.

If I was to guess....

In regards to your coin I do not think it is a coin at all but a religious token.

It is Roman catholic token in Origin from Portugal.

The Patriarch of Lisbon is an honorary title possessed by the archbishop of the Archdiocese of Lisbon. In honor of the title tokens were given out to the population when the title was transferred to the next appointment.

Francisco (I) de Saldanha da Gama (1754-1776) was appointed in 3rd March 1754 and the token was issued as a good luck charm under the blessing of the newly appointed archbishop.

( It should be noted I found 2 conflicting dates of his appointment )

I is interesting to note on the other side of my very rough translation  the Latin words  he sits upon an eagle?

It is possible this token was lost by a shipwrecked Portuguese sailor?

Another factor is 1754 was the start of the seven year war.

Hardluck

Hello all

Luc you are most certainly correct with the coin.

I have brush up with my Latin and knowledge of coins. Grin

What interests me is how did this German coin is on a Welsh beach dated 1754?

Maybe there was a German shipwreck nearby?

I would be interested in seeing Celtic coin.

Hardluck.

Hi hardluck

No problem, effectively the history of this coin must be interresting. The history of shipwrecks around in art can provide answers and still need to know if this coin was not in the purse of a Spanish or Holland guy. But I believe now is your documentation is more complete than mine.

Hi phillip

Regarding the Fisher F75 it appears to be an excellent detector, with a full menu, a very fast response objects detected during a sweep on a ground where different objects are close to each other, are present. That being said, the F-75 with just one frequency, (13kHz) seems to be quite reliable with it's conductivity numbers, and in my experience, picks up small and large non- ferrous targets just fine. For instance: With my F75 detector adjust on 50 for Sensibility. in DE mode, pinpoint at 60, fully notching out iron only, (use these settings, as there was an electric fence nearby),Threshold set at 6, using a moderate sweep. But unfortunately I have not done much with my detector output, to my great regret. I still think that its possibilities are great.
