Probably "teaching grandma to suck eggs" but make sure you get all the necessary permissions from the crown estate office.

Hello Paul

Thanks for the information. Its always best to cover yourself s legally these days. Bureaucracy is unfortunately not endemic only to UK. But at least you have a fairly reasonable System.

In most countries it is no no no. I hope Australia adopts a similar policy other than their greedy snatch and grab policy they have now.

Hardluck.

I guess that Phill is going to have to do some research about them tides. I sure hope that there will be a low one soon so that Phill will be able to apply all of his theories and hard work to practice and we will get to see them coins

Regards xavier

Hi all, from what i know of tides, it is that they do vary from area to area to area, day to day ...
I think the best tide for a search would be the neap tide, As the current should be a little less strong, and the visibility would probably be best at this time. Obviously it depends on the local weather conditions also. As the wreck isn't overly deep from previous statements posted the tide shouldn't matter so much , but the lower tide would be best, I would think. Calm conditions should make for good visibility  Cool

Hi goldnboy

Let me tell you a few facts about the sea firstly it's not because it is calm that you will have a good visibility nor that it will be calm at 20 feet also weather conditions have little to do with under water conditions you may have high winds and excellent visibility and calm condition under water you can have a nice sunny day no wind or very little and  terrible sea conditions with strong currents and bad visibility normally cold water = good visibility but it is not a rule also visibility is always better behind the break and it could be that at low tide the break is on the wreck rather than in front of it remember that there is only 20 feet of water and we don't know if it's at the high or low water mark. You have to be there to be able to tell what will be the best time to selvage how ever if I were to search the beach with a metal detector I would do it after a storm or very bad sea conditions in the hope that there will be less sand and of course at low tide.

All the best
Xavier

Hi Xavier
I have a fair amount of knowledge of sea conditions, in the summer tI'me im at the beach nearly every day. I don't know the local conditions well of the dollar wreck. Probably some local divers would know the good dive times... You have made  a good point about the depth of the wreck. Generally big tides = big tide movement & currents. This can murk up the water, that's why i suggest the neap tide as an option. The swell could also be a factor.  A big factor for good visibility is rain, Lott's of rain = poor visibility!
One of the best places for divers in the word is Nuie, its a small Island in the Pacific, it has no rivers and is a rock surrounded by blue water. It also has land crabs that could probably take off a finger if not handled with care  Cool

Rain will only affect visibility near estuaries but tell me how long have you been diving and what are you certified?
