Hi Phil,
Did you try the "Beach" prog. I put on here for the Explorer?
It works pretty well and might give you a slight "edge"
What coil are you using?
I have a 5" excelerator coil that is just fantastic for the beach as it helps with the coil recovery time (which is pretty slow on explorers) no end.

Hi Paul,
No Ive not used your programmes yet but have downloaded them many thanks, I'm using the double d coil but want to buy a sef coil, will let you know how i get on, will put the Celtic coin on later today, think its a Celtic silver unit Icini tribe.
                                                                  Regards Phil
Hi Paul,
Don't know if your interested but i bought a book a few years back called FINDING HAMMERED SILVER COINAGE IN ENGLAND,SCOTLAND AND WALES. BY BRIAN CROSS and Published by H.I.S.Publishing,52 Stonehills Lane, Runcorn, Cheshire, WA7 5UL.
ISBN 1 874323 20 8. Its got all the County's in the U.K. with Grid refs and recorded Coin hoards, I've had some great results from it. He must have done a lot of research because the Grid refs he's given are spot on for the battle sites of Edward 1st campain in Wales Knight which i found was a grey area with Cadw not giving anything away!!. Another good spot which you probably know more than me is underneath the Old Seven Bridge on the English side where its great for Roman Coins and Artifacts , don't know if your interested in that but just a thought? Plus it gives you the Grid refs for Shipwrecks around the u.k coast.
            Regards Phil

Thanks Phil!
I ordered the book from the local library, seems like they can get it!
I'm not using my Excelerator coil (5") at the moment.
Happy for you to borrow it for a couple of weeks if you want to see how good they are.
I guess postage back and forth wouldn't be too bad......

Hi Paul,
Very kind of you, will let you know ? If you want i could scan that book and send it to you? I just Photographed the coins for you all to see, As i said i think there ICINI TRIBE but may be wrong!!! and regarding the book the Silver Dollar Wreck is listed with grid refs I'm going down Lauharne Castle this week in West Wales on the Mud flats as there's Charles 1st coins being found after the English civil War, What i don't understand is there being found on mud flats and river banks so is there a wreck out there??? If your ever down that way give it a blast? What doe's Hardluck think about a wreck?
                                                                                    Regards Phil

Hi Phil,
would like a scan if it's not too much hassle!
That coin is a silver unit of the "Catuvellauni" the double opposed crescent moons were their symbol.
Pretty closely linked with Iceni.
Hertfordshire (Wheathampstead) not 5 miles from where I'm sitting was their capital!

Hello Phil

During the Civil War, Laugharne was captured by Royalists in 1644, the Parliamentary forces of Major-General Rowland Laugharne attacked the castle later in 1644. After a week long siege in which much of the castle was damaged by cannon-fire, the Royalist garrison finally surrendered.

Perhaps the coins are from the plunder of the castle?

Hardluck

Hi Phil, and all

Paul is right, the coin is from Gallic tribe Iceni -  ?East-Anglian type?

Date : c. 40-61 AD
Metal : silver
Diameter : 13mm

The Iceni occupied a territory covering Norfolk and parts of Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. The coinage appears to begin in the second half of the first century BC We have little information on the Iceni before the conquest of Britain by Claudius in 43.

Best regards

Luc

                                                                 Regards Phil

 Grin Grin Hi Phillip

I was  here in the back ground reading the posts (very interesting stuff) and as you are in very good hands AND as I was beaten to finding the origin of your coin Sad  also the fact that I have been very busy with my project I did not take the time to get involved in this thread like I would have liked too but I'm here for now. Really like your Celtic coins I'll never get to find one of those over here.

Best Regards
Xavier
