Go Up Go Down

Back in 1985, I was stationed at Patrick AFB.

After a kick butt storm, I took two guys out to the beach by the Cabin site.

Between the two of them, they found 11 Reale Coins.

What did I find?   Not a Dang Thing! :'(

Did they Share?   Not a Dang Thing!   Shocked

Did I show them the other Site markers I found?    Not a Dang Thing!    Angry

Have you all seen this web site?

Have Fun if you can!

The beach is still Fare Game! Detecting

That's a pretty nice site for any US detectorist. Very detailed information. Thanks for sharing this link with us.

Homefire, Out of curosity where did you park to hunt that beach area? I assume you hunted right behind the Mcarty Museum since there is a Wreck there and i don't think you can use the museum parking lot for beach access. Parking is scarce on that strip of beach.

Your looking at the wrong place!

Go to the link and look at the map.

It gives GPS cords for all of Fishers sites.

I was talking about the Cabin Wreck.

Alot has changes sense way back then but as per gOOgle Earth, this one is still open.

I spent quite a few hours on those beaches, but never found 1 treasure coin. Just the wrong times to be in Florida, no storms. Did find some pieces of the hull plating so at least I knew I was close. I was just happy to be out of Ct. and in Florida anyway. I did find a diamond ring with 3 stones that totaled 1 carat, but that was further down the coast. My best Florida find.

Aquanut, just curious, but of course you don't have to devulge anything, Back when you did the contract stuff, was it worth it and did you come home with anything really nice? Or did Taffy and the state end up with the best stuff?

JC,
No, I didn't get anything during the split that amounted to anything. But I didn't turn in anything that amounted to anything either. All artifacts and treasure are awarded points. Your share is your combined points total of everything you turned in. The goodies are divided up with these points in mind. If a lot of good stuff is turned in then it will be a good day. If not,...well... it was fun. Don't try to make a living at it...
Aquanut.

If I ever was going to do it, it was going to be for the fun mostly, and hope to pay expenses, but I'm too old now so it is out. If you turned in say, 3 old pewter cups and some spoons, and on the same day turned in a few 8 reales and three had nice readable dates, do you turn these in and just get points, or can you possibly get at least one of the better items back, such as one of the coins with the date? Or is it totaly up to them and you might only get a couple of the non dated 8's. Or in other words, maybe you get a part of what you turned in with no picking on your part?

JC,
In the scenario you described, the most likely outcome would be that the state would wind up with one pewter cup and one or two coins.  You being the finder, would have preference to obtain half the remaining items in a split with the Fishers. Of course, this is ignoring input from the other contractors which may have some influence on the outcome. Since the State already has more coins than they know what to do with, they may simply take part of their cut elsewhere, picking an artifact of historical value for example.  If an artifact that another contractor found is picked, his cut needs to be made up by finds in the remainder of the take for the year... As you can see, the process can get a little tricky, however complicated it can get, I think with all things considered, it is fair.
Aquanut
