I can only venture a guess that a gas pocket nearby blew out, and the escaping gases caused that misty effect.

Well thats a new ideal

I am clueless Who maybe it will happen again and we will have more info

Seldom ~ A lot of weird stuff happens at this site, but it is very rare to capture it in photographs. I do have another one but the file size is too large to upload here. If I get the time I will see if I can find software to compress it or whatever needs to be done to reduce the file size.

Yes, it's a good idea, except this was not seen by the naked eye, and a camera malfunction has been ruled out.

If it were an old fashioned film camera, I'd chalk it up to light leakage from some one cracking the back momentarily or something similar (use to get a similar effect developing film with my dad)---but digital, I don't have a clue.

Yeah, I agree, sort of, if you look closely, the smoke like stuff is swirling around the bench, etc. but it's a new digital camera that was checked before and after the subject photo.

Again, I'm just curious to know if anybody has a reasonable explanation for the photograph(s) I posted. I never said that this is a ghost, and it most certainly is not cigarette smoke or a malfunctioning camera.

You may not have said so directly but you did post that photo here in support of this topic which is "Ghost at cache sites." That does more than simply imply it was meant to show a ghost.

No it hasn't been ruled out. Either it is a deliberate fake or the camera malfunctioned. That's all there is to it.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Comparing the EXIF data of the 2 photos may provide some insight on the matter.

Hobbyist ~ How do I compare the EXIF data?

GoldDigger1950 ~ Yes, I have to agree about the thread that I posted this in. This is most definitely not a deliberate fake, and if you look at the characteristics of the smoke-like stuff in the image, they do not look like anything that a camera malfunction could produce. Of course this is in addition to all the non-photographic phenomena that I won't go into here.

Either use a commercial photo editing program like Adobe Photoshop or a free one like Google's Picasa. Load the photo into the program and choose to view the EXIF data. In Picasa, choose the View> Properties menu while in edit mode. In some digicams, you may view said data directly on the camera...as you didn't mention what make and model you used, I don't know if yours has that feature.

Now, viewing the data is one thing....being able to make sense of it is another. Until you have it all looked at by a semi-pro or total-boffin lensman, it's premature to rule out the possibility of any camera bugs. Thru the years, even reputable camera manufacturers have released models with faulty sensors and erratic inconsistent behavior. Post all your data on any decent digital camera forum (preferably one dedicated to your brand of camera)...I think you'll get the proper answers from people who live eat and breathe photography.

Thanks Hobbyist ~ I'll see what I can find out from the photographic perspective. Needless to say, I guess I will never find a scientific explanation for all the other paranormal stuff.
