Therefore these words need closer scrutiny, for instance, why are the words "LAGOON", a little different from one another.
The China Sea chart, has a wavy line, across the top of the "L". ??

The wavy line might be showing how the ship should approach the islands - the bottom of the L on Lagoon could be directional. I wouldn't have thought that maybe it's just an enlargement, but I like the idea - could the little circle on the right side of the lagoon area in each chart be the one enlarged in the foreground? Sue

You have put forward some thoughtful ideas, Sue, also trying to link them with evolving views of the charts.

As my earlier post states, special scrutiny should be made of the "L" in the lagoon, and the wavy line!
You will also notice, the difference in the letter "A", next to the "L"!!
If you take these two letters, in conjunction with the wavy line.!
You will notice, that the wavy line, has a dot, at it's "head", with it's tail passing over the "L" and "A"!!?

When this feature is looked at in isolation, it could well portray, a River Mouth or Delta, with the "L" forming a significant, left tributary, the "A", forming two tributaries, closer together and the flick of the "tail", forming the fourth tributary!!.

The head or start of the wavy line, has the "dot", which could signify a Port, Town or city!!??

From a seaward point of view, this is exactly the type of geographical/topographical point a navigator would look for!. Other features within the Lagoon would then form the larger picture, of the Island group.

Best wishes crowsnest.

Kevin,
I was going to say I'm amazed at how you "look outside the box" in order to see what's right there, but maybe it's the better perspective from being up in that crowsnest <grin> Of course, a "dot" shows a town on maps - oh duh, here I thought we were out on some archipelago with only a few old crusty sea birds flying around. Sue

Sue, You now seem to be getting the feel, for this chart.

In my earlier post, I mentioned the word reefs!. With the hidden code of Piece of 8?

Well the interpretation, should not be taken literally!.

After all, a piece of 8, is a spanish coin, made of silver!
The significant part, is that it was attached to the reef, therefore, it could portray the word, "Silver Reef", or the island, could have 8 reefs, when approaching it from the South West, the silver, could also refer to the waves, breaking over the reef, the foam, in sunlight or moon light, causing a silver shimmer!!??

But your right, the view from here is enlightening!! "grin".

Best wishes, crowsnest.

Ah so you are hinting that the spot above the wavy line coming from the dot is near what's really the enlarged island? Sue
