Hi Sue, Thanks for the link, the author is certainly a prolific, writer and entrepreneur!.

I have a small item of interest, one man who made more money, than most of the pirates, was a supplier of provisions, to them.

He became one of the richest men in New York, (New Amsterdam), he died in 1702 with a Baronial estate, stretching 21miles along the Hudson.

His name was, Frederick Philipse, he arrived in New York, from Holland, in 1647.
He Supplied the "Kingdom of the Pirates".................Known as "Libertalia", this is not a fictional place, it was.......... Madagascar.!

Kevin.
Ps, The other chart, is closer to home......... than you think??

Hi Kevin,
That author might just be jumping on the pirate bandwagon - why do I feel that there is probably nothing in his book that you don't already know <smile>. How did the pirates get to Madagascar anyway? Around Africa? That sure seems like a faraway place for them. I'm glad that the other chart is closer . . . maybe I'm not so far off when I said "our" property? Sue

Hi Sue,

Closer to you than you think,................if you recall, one of my earlier posts, you will remember, you said, that you think, Corn Island, probably had Treasure on it!

I replied, that I was looking at, a couple of islands, off Honduras!!
yes that close,....remember the company, who had acquired rights to search, that area and had found evidence of a pirate ship.............well!

How, or why, did the pirates pick a base, so far from their natural homes!
Firstly their home was their ship, secondly Madagascar, was on the main route for all shipping to the near and far east.
Thirdly the island is massive, with many good anchorages, the main pirate base was on the North East of the island, a natural lagoon with a small island within it called St Marys'.

Kidd and many, many, others used this base, to careen and restock their ships, they also stripped and sank many of the ships they pirated!.

The area around the base is littered with sunken ships, although they will have nothing of material value, on them.
All the guns, provisions and iron aboard, would have been stripped off them.
The pirates helped the local indigenous, princes, who were constantly at war with one another, this story is so immense, that I will relate it to you in length.
What galls me a little, is that some guy wrote and filmed a documentary, about Kidd's ship, the Adventure Galley, which Kidd scuttled at St. marys', as she was worm ridden after nearly three years at sea, the worm in question, was called the Toledo worm, it eats into the ships wood, like a termite and is found in tropical waters.
Kidds ship was becoming unseaworthy, so he changed ship to the Adventure prize, one of the ones, he pirated, and sunk his original ship in the harbour...........Why! someone would want to find Kidds' ship, which would have been stripped of anything valuable, is beyond me??

It would make more sense to search for Kidds', the "Adventure Prize", which is rumoured to be scuttled up a river inlet, on Hispaniola.
But thats' yet another story!
Best wishes Kevin.

Ps.So much useless info running around my mind, glad that you are such a good listener!

Hi Kevin,
I do remember. I guess pirates were at home no matter where - just out treasure hunting. It's been a very interesting subject. Enjoyed it. Sue

Hello everybody, I'm new to this site and was just browsing through some of the threads.

Your reading way into those maps, you keep talking about the lagoon and where they anchored the ships which you are "Correct". There is alot more staring right at you. Sue was very close, but I'll let you rejuvinate this topic for a little bit. As soon as I seen those maps it hit me like a ton of bricks.

Hello, welcome to our forum! I hope you will enjoy it.

It's good to see that more people are interested in Cocos Island. If you don't mind please let us know what you think you've seen in the maps. I'm curious Smiley

Best wishes,

Christian

fortunately it's not what I "think" I seen, it's what I know I saw  Wink.  I'm going to do some verifying to be sure but I'm about 98% positive of what I saw. Believe me I wouldn't be saying this if I wasn't sure, I'm not that type of person.

Wow, it's been awhile since Kevin presented his charts . . . "hit you like a ton of bricks!" I'm curious, too, and extending you a big welcome, BF750! Maybe some of the newer members have ideas, too. I'm still interested in the subject. Sue

Wow, no takers...

Ok, I'll give you one. Look at the China map,

 WOODS

 WOOD
   20
TURTLES

Turtles were commonly used to represent treasure, usually drawn not spelled but lack of space understandable. The way it's set up is a common advertising label of today "20 WOOD TURTLES". Fabeled treasure chests were made of wood and the top was round like a turtle shell and flat on the bottom. Woods on top, look how the s is slanted the S is a 5 or 9.

I'll give you guys and gals a few days to see if you notice anything else. I'm still working on the symbols in the woods

Oh, one other thing.... it's not the Coco's islands  Grin  I hope this map is real!!!
