Hi,

Those charts (and ALL the so called "Kidd" ones) are complete baloney.
The provenance behind them is very suspect to say the least.
"Kidds Treasure"... doesn't exist.... never did... end of.
Simple study of the trial proceedings will show that.
There is NO evidence to support any of it.

Kidd's body, covered with tar and hung in chains, was gibbeted on the shore of the reach of the Thames hard by Tilbury Fort, as was the customary manner of displaying dead pirates by way of warning to passing seamen. His treasure was confiscated by the Crown, and what was left of it, after the array of legal gentlemen had been paid their fees, was turned over to Greenwich Hospital by act of Parliament.
Thus lived and died a man, who, whatever may have been his faults, was unfairly dealt with by his patrons; misused by his rascally crew, and slandered by credulous posterity.

Hi - I know of someone whose great grandfather worked at the British Museum when the "Palmer" charts were looked at.
The museum only stated that they were consistent with 17th century documents - not that they WERE.

It is Sooooo easy to fake 17th century ink (It's only a mixture of ferrous sulphate, and gallic acid (from oak trees). It also fades to a brownish colour very quickly too.
17th century manuscript wasn't hard to come by in the 20's and 30's either, Considering the Palmers were heavily into the "Antique trade"  - 17th and 18th century books usually had quite a few spare "Fly Sheets"
TheBritish Museum's statement of late is that the handwriting IS NOT Kidd's, the cartography when compared with that of the period is incorrect, and further that the handwriting appears to be 20th century!

When Kidd wrote his letter to Robert Harley stating he had "lodged treasure to the value of ?100,000" he was referring to "treasure" he was unaware had already been recovered.

I could go on and on......

All in all, a very good hoax by the Palmer Brothers et al......

Can anyone tell me if anyone has EVER found pirate treasure using a "treasure map" ....
I suspect not....
I think "treasure maps" were likely as not started by one R.L. Stevenson ....
It's all "Hollywood" and if anyone tells you otherwise, they are likely as not trying to sell you a copy of their latest book on the subject, or trying to get you to invest in some dubious "island treasure hunt".
