Go Up Go Down

Well gentleman I think we can all agree that it will take some time to go by before we will see some real results from this fine experiment.
I can't speak for Peter but I planned on keeping my end of the experiment as simple as possible. Also as long as it takes to get the results I'm looking for then so be it,I have years to wait if need be.What I'm looking for is how long it will take either and or both coins to disappear from sight. And yes I know it will take some time for this to happen but you can bet your a** it will.
On 03-23-2011 I dropped two quarters, one laying flat and one on edge which is at the edge of my back yard. The ground is compact and growing grass and I'm already seeing some coin shifting from the grass growth.I believe that the yard grass is going to have a major affect on the coins positions,I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
The way I'm conducting this is as if some good ole boy dropped two quarters at a certain spot in my back yard and there they lay lost to time.
I check the coins every Sunday and I'm sure I will continue to do so for many Sundays to come till I'm happy with the results I get.   Keep it simple stupid..  Idiot

Now this is for Peter  Clapp for starting up this fine experiment in which I believe he's doing a bang up job on   Great

I guess it's all about how much info one wants to gain from this experiment to say if it failed or not. Myself, I know for a fact that these two coins will relocate from the upper surface and will lay hidden under earth,it's just how long will it take for this to happen? This is the only info that I seek from this experiment......
If you have nothing but time then stick around and let's see what happens,if you don't then your way too busy for me..    Crazy

Guys, just remember that even if the coins do disappear, we have detectors to keep an eye on them, and the depth can also be monitored by the detector..... or even a probe.... If we go one better and place one copper coin and a nickel coin, we can even monitor what is happening to individual coins  Great This is not fool proof, but will give us an idea..... I have had some amazing rain this week, so am hoping to see something happen due to this.... if the ground gets soggy, the coins should sink quicker  Shocked
I also have lots of time to monitor the coins, as they are across the road from me in the bush..... Not much in the way of foot travel, so protected against theft....  Great

Here is the latest photo update  Great The surrounding grass is getting very long... battled a little to find the spot  Idiot We have had an amazing amount of rain this last few days..... The flat coin as moved slightly away from the stick (5mm) and also has turned a little bit around.... Maybe the rain bumped it, not sure.... The stick seems to be sticking out the ground a little, but could be that soil has washed away from the stick exposing it. Check out the differences between this and the last photo....  Wise

Enjoy the photo  Wink

With my digs in my area, I think it's mostly rain and worms that bury coins.
I get a worm or 2 in every plug I dig and we get rain here that sometimes never stops.
I've dug 2000 on up pennies down 4-6".
Just pulled a 1992 dime from 6-8".
Mushy cake batter from rain on top, worms in between, and sand underneath makes for a coin gobbler.

Go Up Go Down

Hi Hector, thanks for the input  Great This is the reason I took on this project..... That some new coins are found quite deep down.... Which means that the coin has sunk very quickly, some very old coins being found quite shallow, and that just makes me wonder as to why  Idea
Many things seem to effect a coins sinking, from soil softness to weather conditions to weight of coin and animal movement under the coin.... Grass growing pulling the coin down, or just covering the coin ..... lots to think about  Wise

That's great Peter, there is no doubt that the coin has had some movement.Just maybe this experiment will relocate under earth quicker then first thought, then maybe not  Grin
Well I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Keep up the outstanding work bro.........  Great
