So many wise words that I don?t know if I can add much to it just that I hate crowds in fact I don?t like people because of there stupidity in general they will ask the most ridicules questions like what are you doing? Like if they can?t see what the #@!%%$ I?m doing or did you find any gold yet? Yeh sure just pulled out the lost Kruger Rand?s  I just go to places that have a story to tell like old farms and abandoned railway stations we got loads of them here in SA .

Regards Xavier

Slowly but surely, am getting used to it... beginning to not let it bug me if there are people around or not.   Wink

Was out the other night... about 8 teens showed up at the tot lot I was hitting... lots of questions, most comments were around the "I always wanted to try metal detecting". Lol.  Of course asking what I have found... explained am a rookie... nothing of real value... thats the truth so far, ha ha.  Although, have found coin, some small silver with the stamps on them... next is gold.  Who knows.  Really beginning to learn the Silver Umax now, but always seems to come back to digging it all.  In that there were times were it sounded like trash, but was coin on end, twice... kind of cool.  All that to say, still do most of my detecting at night... much more peaceful that way, ha ha.

As you can see we all have had the same feelings as we started the metal detector hobby. After time you will develop a feeling that you love what you are doing so much that you don't care what other people are thinking. When asked how you are doing i usually say i'm not finding much, don't brag about your finds to people in the park.

Learn to use a probe, this is challenging but when you accomplish this it can be a lot of fun, start by pushing the probe gently into the ground where you have pin pointed the target, you will usually hit the coin two or three inches down, move over until your probe goes deeper beside the coin, wiggle back and forth and pry up a little, some times you can stick your finger in and pull out the coin. I have even popped the coin out with almost no hole at all. Takes some practice but what fun when it works.

Good Luck and keep enjoying the hobby

Go Up Go Down

I scored my first park today!  There was a list of things on a sign that said what could and could not be done, and nowhere did it mention MDing so I called the number listed there and asked if it was allowed and the lady said she doesn't see why not, and then said...."Let me ask the man in charge just to be sure"

She came back on the line and said that I was more than welcome to do all the metal detecting that I wanted, and to have fun!  Not the response I expected, but it really made my day and I am looking forward to getting some time in there this weekend.  Kinda nervous, as I am an introvert and dont really speak to people I dont know, so I imagine the first couple of "investigators" will be an uncomfortable situation for me.

That's a big first step, LittleJohn---especially for an introvert.  Glad it worked out for you.  Hope you have good hunting there.
